Buying Win 7 ultimate (64-bit)

GODMODE09

Hi guys,
I am using Win 7 ultimate (not genuine) so far and as my work requires regular updates from .net , I have to buy it .
As far as I can see the 64-bit ulti version can't be found for less than 10k (which I think is way too expensive for OS) .
Is there anywhere else I can buy it cheaper?

I'm also thinking about buying Win 8 pro instead of 7 and installing the pack that will bring back the start menu . Win 8 pro seems to be lot cheaper than 7 (~4k/-) ? And I think it should be better than 7 as it gets updated.

Please suggest me the best option to get updates for .net .

Thanks

Any reason for using Ultimate? AFAIK, unless you need specific features, namely Bitlocker, even Professional OR a lower version should do the trick.

if you just want the ultimate edition, try finding a friend in MS. you can get it for less than 2k.

Guys,
I want to go for Win 8 pro right away . I plan on installing the add on to get the start menu and not going to use live tiles.
My work requires lots of security features to prevent getting hacked.
I will go for Win 8 if it is atleast as good as Win 7 .
Also it looks like it will be for <5K before Jan 31st and after that it will be 11K ? Is it true?
I have to buy one fully . Don't have a genuine OS to update to Win 8 .

Please comment on my thoughts.

Buy windows 8 pro for 4K and downgrade for free to windows 7 pro with the same license

if you buy windows 8 pro (which is an upgrade pack probably), it might check if your windows 7 license is genuine or not before installing. Any plan on what if it does not install?

I installed a win 8 lisence that i bought from windows website (downloaded using windows assistance) on a fresh SSD. Which means, it works.

Note that I bought the copy when it was for 699/- offer.

Understanding downgrade rights

The downgrade processFollow these steps to downgrade to a previous version of Windows or Windows Server software:

Obtain genuine Windows media and a corresponding product key for the version of Windows that is eligible for downgrade.
The media should come from a prior legally licensed version from the OEM or Retail channels.
End users who are licensed separately through Microsoft Volume Licensing (VL) may provide their VL media and key to a system builder to facilitate the downgrade on their own systems.
Insert the downgrade-eligible version of Windows media in the CD drive and follow the installation instructions.
Type the product key.
If the software was previously activated, you will not be able to activate it online. In this case, the appropriate local Activation Support phone number will be displayed. Call the number and explain the circumstances. When it is determined that the end user has an eligible Windows license, the customer service representative will provide a single-use activation code to activate the software. Please note that Microsoft does not provide a full product key in this scenario.
Activate the software.

Thats the issue with downgrades. Anyways, use a copy from any laptop has the correct version installed. That should work.

Honestly, even though I have a genuine single key for 7, I have not bother using it so far because one very simple reason --> Hardware upgrades. Each time I do a major upgrade, the OS may ask me to reactivate which is truly a big PITA. The last time I used their automated service, I got darn fed up. So am using a loader.

You need the Windows 7 key to get past the installation only.
For activation, you can use your windows 8 key.

That is the issue. You will need a genuine copy of W7, actually, according to the TnC.

Ill send them a mail and ask them the procedure since I plan to get 2 lappies, one or both of them may come with W8.
