C168 vs J230i

i am looking for a basic colour mobile with FM and have narrowed down my choice to the Motorola C168 and Sony J230i.
which one is better?
are there any other phones to consider?
i dont want a flip phone.

Motorola W220.... Nice phone....

Bought it for 3800 from Heera Panna w/ Bill, the other day, for my gal.

The Good looks are a big plus, FM reception is good. Sound quality is decently good.

low end SE's have build quality issues. i bought the c168 because its is way easier to text on it than the SE. the moto comes with a 1000 mAh battery-(awesome standby time .. goes around 4 days on full charge) , and the display is the best bit... though the colour might not be the most vibrant, it NEVER washes out in sunlight. Compared to the other phones in my house ( an LG c2500 and a samsung x200) whose displays fade at the first hint of sunlight, i've put hte screen in direct sunlight and was able to read perfectly also, its very fast and responsive, even the menus .. maybe its cos its a TFT display.

one thing, the c168 doesn't have a hands free mode, but with the bundled headphones, doesn't seem like an issue.

i was initially apprehensive about using Motorola's iTAP, but since have fallen in love with it. also, the two fones feel different in the hand . the SE feels like a traditional candy bar handset, while the moto feels like a biscuit. its very discreet and you can carry it around without the telltale bulge in your pocket ;)

btw, for all the praises I've sung about the screen, motorola forgot to include any good wallpapers . all you get are three TRULY $hitty wallpapers which look like screencaps from some really poor vcd

I got the J230i too, no issues so far, you'll also get the Nokia 2310 in the same range, though it's got a smaller screen...for a bit more you'll get the 6030.

Get the Moto C168...600 phonebook, 250 sms...and good screen...

Nokia 2310 has a tiny screen..wid huge font...

and SE J230i is not tht responsive wid its passive screen matrix...

i'm going to get the cell in half an hour,so any final suggestions?
here are the phones i have rejected.
W220-flip
2310-small screen and looks cheap
6030-no stereo FM radio.

so i guess its still between the C168 and J230i.
read in many sites about the poor Sony display, but my heart seems to be set for the Sony.
however, the C168 is cheaper and has a better phonebook capacity, and i dont need the speakerphone anyways.hmm...

what about the radio quality in these phones?a lot of people who have these phones say that the headset gets spoilt within 2-3 months.
then i was considering to forget about FM and get the Nokia 1600.will this be a good idea?

pls give ur final suggestions guys.thx in advance.

The J230i handsfree is same as the one that you get with the k750i :D the radio quality is as good as in 750i and the loudspeaker is also loud enough...the J230i also has a very easy to use menu system, like the nokia series40 phones , it lets you select between grid view or individual menu's...the moto's got the larger phonebook though. I would say get the J230i...hope I'm not too late :)

i use the c168 phone ... it serves all the basic purposes well , radio reception is good.

only issue is once the sms reach 100 & above , the phone slows a bit in menus & accessing functions... other than that , for the price , its good :)

the c168 radio has better sensitivity/range. the sound quality has a lot of emphasis on the treble though, but its a fault of the bundled earphones. when i used the earphones that came with my lg C2500, the sound quality was better. but the build quality of the moto earphones were better , or at least looked better. also the moto headset had a call/answer button the LG didnt have .

here's a pic of mine :D

U can get the 2.5mmsocket to 3.5mm extension...use to be bundled wid N-gage classic and is also available in da market...might be available for 300 bucks or so...

then u can plug in any earphones on ur moto and njoi da music...

or get the handsfree headset of a Moto e398 and njoi da radio...

couldnt buy the cell yesterday as the shop from where i had decided to buy was closed.
still confused between 1600,J230i and C168.

i guess both us SE and Moto fanbois got shafted ;)

but seriously dude... you just lost a LOT to save 200 bucks :P

but then again, if you're the type that drops their phone a lot , then a nokia might be for you

I agree with greenhorn...though it's your choice afterall :)

well, let me give the reasons why i didnt buy the Sony or Motorola:
Sony J230i-poor display(totally fades out in sunlight),build quality seems poor, silver finish on centre-select and surrounding buttons looks cheap.
Motorola C168-small,closely-spaced buttons not suited to my large fingers, supplied headset not good, poor build quality, motorola interface isnt too great.

P.S:i dont drop my phone a lot.i owned a Motorola C118 for a year before this and i hadnt dropped it even once during that time.
