PC Peripherals Cabinet+SMPS - Suggestion & advice needed ~5k

  1. Q: What is your budget?
    • 5k total for both items - 2.5k max for cabinet and cooling fans
  2. Q: What is your existing hardware configuration (component name - component brand and model)
    • CPU - AMD Phenom II X2 555
    • Motherboard - Asus M2N68 AM-Plus
    • GPU - XFX Radeon 6450
    • RAM - Transcend 1X2GB
    • Monitor - Samsung SyncMaster 740n
    • SMPS - Intex not sure it ifs 350W or 400W
    • Dvd drive - Lg dvd writer (not plugged as of now) - Want to plug in new cabinet
    • Hdd - Seagate 500gb and 80gb (not plugged now) - Want to plug in new cabinet
    • Cabinet - iBall (got this when i bought pc 5 years ago) - cant find product listing in iBall website

  3. Q: Which hardware will you be keeping (component name - component brand and model)
    • All except cabinet. Might replace SMPS a bit after sometime maybe
  4. Q: Which hardware component are you looking to buy (component name). If you have already decided on a configuration then please mention the (component brand and model) as well, this will help us in fine tuning your requirement.
    • Have looked up Zebronics Reaper, Poison and Aviator - Like the Reaper very much. Willing to spend max of 2.5k on cabinet. Want to fit in extra fans within the budget and also looking for toolfree cabinet. Got a quote of INR 2325 for the Reaper locally.
  5. Q: Is this going to be your final configuration or you would be adding/upgrading a component in near future. If yes then please mention when and which component
    • Yes, will upgrade the following within 2 months
    • SMPS - Dont know how much Watts is required. Want to keep in mind that i will upgrade my processor+mobo+gfx in the near future

    • Not as of now. I think my processors have extra 2 cores to be unlocked but dont know how to do it. :(
  13. Q: Which operating system do you intend to use with this configuration?
    • Windows 7 32 bit
 
Go for the Seasonic S12II 520W OR Corsair GS 500W ~4000/-

For cabinet, hold onto the current one you have and upgrade to a better one when you over-haul the entire PC. Buying cabinet without knowing the graphics card length is not recommended and any half decent cabinet will set you back by ~2500/- and above.

Also to unlock your current processor to a quad-core, use this guide --> AMD K10.5 Core & Cache Unlocking Guide. It lists all the important points like --
  • motherboard compatibility
  • effects of unlocking
  • which series have a higher unlock-potential
  • how to unlock

P.S. -- if your motherboard is not listed, I advise not to try unlocking the processor.
 
@ALPHA17 i will be upgrading part by part mostly. Wanted a nice cabby for a long time now. And i dont think i will be buying a very high end gfx. In your opinion should i get SMPS now and postpone the cabby for later? Prices are shooting up. My friend got the Reaper for 1.7k and now its 2.3k.

Seriously, your current budgetary limitations curtail you from getting a decent cabinet (along with the SMPS in question). I would suggest that you hold out for now, buying a ~1000/- quid local cabinet is the last thing you want when you buy a new graphics card which fails to fit in the same.

Just how I view your predicament, Cheerio!

@ALPHA17 i have finally decided to purchase only the PSU for now (due to budgetary constraints decision took longer). As you suggested will buy cabby later on.

Should i get 430w or 500w keeping in mind the future upgrade.

Go for the Seasonic S12II 520W-4.2k it'd be better to get good psu once than upgrading later.

I saw that one up. What about the corsair 500CX?
@Jakob Buddy where is the Seasonic for 4.2k saw it on flipkart for 4.4k. I doubt its available locally here in Chennai.

You can check Deltapage OR Theitwares,Primeabgb the rates differ by few bucks every day so check those websites,You'd avoid CX500 it's not good enough comparing Seasonic S12ii 520W so stick to that,Cheers.

can any one tell me whether any psu can fitted with any cabinet?,mine is supercomp cabinet,want to buy Seasonic S12II 520W.or corsair
