Call from Credit Card Service Provider

Just got a call from Delhi Call Center. The Representative correctly identified me by my full name. Then proceeded by saying that we know you hold a credit card for some time and we are calling from Credit Card Service Provider.

I thought this must be the call from ICICI or Citibank, so I asked her if her company is a bank or is it a call center operated by Visa or Mastercard. To my surprise she kept repeating that she is calling from Credit Card Service provider and it's not a bank. She could not explain why she has all my data including Credit Card information.

Who are these guys? How do they have my data? Has anyone here received such phone calls?
 
What was the motive of the call ? Did they say payment is due or something ? I would say just ignore the call but yes how they got your information and name and all is up for discussion. Companies sell customer information all the time, without telling the customer.
 
If I remember correctly, I did get similar calls before. I think they were trying to sell a discount card. There would be an first time payment of 3-5K INR. The card will make one eligible for discounts on many of websites/malls/shops/restaurants.
 
There have been lots of instances of people who work in call centers, selling personal information in bulk to these telemarketers. Probably one of those.
