Well i was wondering whether this is possible to call via internet in a landline or cell phone?and also i want to that whether this calls are free and can we make unlimited calls?and how much safe are these calls?

Depends on where you want to call :)

If its only calling to India then there is no free offer here. Countries where VOIP is more open like singapore, usa... you can easily get away with free offers or pay a little money for unlimited calling

No free service to call to India AFAIK. Calls within India are so cheap anyway, why do u want to go to the trouble of internet calling?

If it is US numbers u want to call , the best option is Google voice + Gizmo5 combination. If u want unlimited outgoing, best option is GV + Sipagate + sipsorcery. Totally unlimited free calling to any US number :D I've been using it for some time now. A quick search in google will give u the instructions on how to set it up.

^^ u can use pretty much any voip adapter if u r using sip protocol. Yeah...if u want, u can have voip adapters at both ends, but usually parents will be in India and kids in US, so practically it's better to have one VOIP adapter at home (India) and the person in US can use his cellphone/landline.

If it is for old people, it's better to have a simple voip adapter + landphone combo. No need of fancy wifi phones. Something like this wud do I guess.

@arvnd

Thank you.

Linksys looks quite geeky.

Can you suggest phone kind of device which can be connected directly to BSNL/Airtel Modem RJ45 cable on which we can configure Skype ID for lifetime. so that they can just pickup the phone & dial or receive the call.

I saw phone kind of device long back from Skype, not able to see on site now.

^^ I dunno if Linksys thing is so geeky. U'll just need to configure it once, and from then on it's as easy as picking up the phone and dialing. Just connect it ur RJ45 cable to one end, ur normal telephone to the other end and configure it...that shud be it (never tried it though).

Sorry..not much idea about skypephones.

thanks guys for ur valuable entries.....actually a friend asked me whether this is possible or not.............but i was not able to give him correct answer.but with ur valuable answer i can reply him........thank u buddies once again......:hap2:

If u want to call locally or in India, you can use Rediff ads. Just post a ad and contact the person by giving the mobile / landline numbers.

My criteria is simple.

Fit 1 phone at India & Other one at US(any country), Configure Skype ID on both with remember passwords.

Just tell Elder people or female members of family to connect RJ45 cable & wait for few mints (to get an IP from modem) just pick up the phone & press dial.

Looking for something like this.. Any ideas ?

Interesting one :) ..didnt know this.

But seems call is restricted to 1.5 minutes. Also giving ur mobile number to rediff might not be a good idea. I hate getting unwanted calls on mobile so I'm very careful in giving out my mobile number.

Also been using a similar setup, I have been debating whether to install Asterik to my eTrayz device to enhance the whole setup... but it's kind of time consuming to setup.

I guess it makes sense if u use this a lot, like for some business purpose or something.

In my case, I have a bunch of friends and a few relatives in US. Even though I have the option of calling them unlimited using GV+Sipgate+Sipsorcery, there is some delay (lag) in the call. Each additonal step you add contributes to some lag. The best sound quality I've got is when I get an incoming call on GV routed to Gizmo5 (or incoming call to sipgate). Ipkall is generally laggy.

So I usually end up calling them using GV+Gizmo5 (3 minute limit) and then they call me back at my GV number. Since most of the calls are at US night time or weekends, it doesnt use up their cellphone plan minutes, so they dont mind :)

If they are skypephones definitely they'll work :) No reason why they should not work. But the links u gave are all old (2006-2007) so there shud be much better options now.

As I said earlier, I don't have much idea about these skypephones or their price, performance etc.
