Call of Duty Black Ops 2 becomes the fastest franchise ever to gross $1 Billion, in just 15 days. Owned by Activision Blizzard, Call of Duty has pretty much been it's cash cow for the last couple of years, ever since the mega blockbuster release of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Since then, a total of three Modern Warfare titles, one World at War (2nd world war based) title and two Black Ops titles have been released. Something tells you that the trend has shifted to current and future wars and not wars of years gone by (as the sales of World at War were somewhat disappointing compared to Modern Warfare, and Modern Warfare 2 right after World at War).

Call of Duty Black Ops 2

We have come to a stage where we really forget which iteration of Call of Duty we are playing. Perhaps the publishers are shamed, and they do not mention it anywhere (nine) either. Call of Duty Black Ops 2 beat previous best by last year's Modern Warfare 3 title and James Cameron's Avatar in 2009 to become the fastest selling franchise to hit $1 Billion in the entertainment history.

Here's a comparison of how long previous industry benchmarks took to hit $1 Billion.
  • Avatar (2009) - 17 days
  • Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 - 16 days
  • Call of Duty Black Ops 2 - 15 days

Call of Duty should be called Speed of Duty as it's sales exceeds two of world's largest franchises in the movie industry, i.e. Star Wars and Harry Potter.

Call of Duty Black Ops 2 can be purchased for $59.99 today (minus any current or future DLCs of course).

Call Of Duty Black Ops 2 on Steam for $59.99
