Guys,

I need to know which voip service is the best to make calls to india (Cell and land lines too) from europe, apart from skype.

Thinking of switching to voip coz phone bills are running high now :@

What they do is, giove you a VOIP gateway which you connect between your router and computer. The comp is connected through the ethernet port and a telephone (RJ-11) jack connects to a regular phone.

The gateway is assigned a local US number. So, in effect you have a local US number which can make and receive calls.

You just use it as you use the BSNL/MTNL landline. No difference at all in voice quality and the gateway does a QoS on the line. Even if you max out the connection with bit-torent, the gateway will reduce the bandwidth to the computer by ~3-4KB/s (which is all that is consumed by the VOIP connection).

You receive and can make calls like a land-line with the only difference being that the voice is routed through the internet.

Also, allmmost all of my friends and relations use my above mentioned VOIP service.

@Kumar,

I need to call India from Europe. Does this service work from Europe?
I cant open site now, coz its blocked at work.

if you are just going to call and not receive calls, you can also give Yahoo a try, their rates are 2 cent/min for Us and 8 cents/min for India. The plans start at 10 dollars credit, which I guess is valid for 9 months or so. The calls can be made using Yahoo messenger 9 Beta (US edition) and generic Pc/laptop speaker/mic can be used effectively. Good for use when on travel while you are on a high bandwidth low latency connection.

+1 for yahoo if you are only going to make calls, used it when i was in Thailand, nice voice clarity.

Tried using calling cards? not cheaper than yahoo, but you are not tied to a PC/laptop for your calls - Go Bananas card is the most honest about the rates IIRC - they say 30 cents and you are charged 30 cents (via a toll-free number) - the others that promise 2cents to india charge for the local call during the usage too, which eventually lands up at the same or slightly higher than the banana card rate

I have the best option for calling India! I am myself in Europe (Germany) and have been using this service from some time..Its the cheapest in the market, and the call quality is good!

VoipRaider

3.5 Cents per min to Indian Landlines,4 Cents per min to Mobiles..Cant get any cheaper than that :)

P.S: Mind you, those are Dollar Cents i.e. its less than 2 rs. per min!
