So, I am visiting Mumbai over the weekend and I have full Saturday and Sunday to tour the city and check out the cool places etc. Will be doing all this with a friend of mine, who is staying at Santa-cruse West and I will be stating with a friend in Andheri. So, I also need to counter the travelling time, from my place to her and then to other places in Mumbai.

So, far, I have shortlisted these places by checking over the Internet. I can start 8am from my place and I need to have a planned schedule for 2 days. Here is a rough idea, you guys can help me fill in

Saturday

Rough plan: Prithvi cafe, play at prithvi stadium, juhu beach , I need to know what are the good places to check out in the morning. Any good breakfast/lunch/dinner places around? Any good karting places that I can go in the morning/afternoon?

8:00AM - 8:40AM - Reached Santa-cruse West from Andheri. ( Should be around 40 mins? )

9:00AM - 9:20AM - Juhu Area? Good time in the morning? May be somewhere else?

Sunday

Rough plan: Don know..? may be marine drive in the evening, a famous and awesome mall in the afternoon etc? Little help here please.

Well as you can see, I have very little idea now, I am visiting Mumbai for the first time. Would appreciate any help, may be some other cool places that I should visit? Good food places ? Both of us are food junkies
<

Thanks

Hi,

i'm a newbie to mumbai myself.

Andheri to Santa Cruz shouldnt take more than 15-20 mins by auto.

For foodies, Bandra is the place to be (since it is close to where you stay. Just one train stop away from Santa Cruz)

As for all the "cool places etc.,", i also wish to know the same
<
Hope our Mumbaikar brethren can enlighten us..

Take a Virar fast from Grant Road at 7PM, heading toward Virar and try to get down at Bandra.

Unforgettable experience guaranteed.

Day 1 : From Santacruz - West head to Bandra - Candies for Breakfast (open from 9 am)

http://www.zomato.com/mumbai/restaurants/west/bandra-west/candies-37239

after that - by autorickshaw Move to Mount Mary's Church ( 20-25 mins ride In bandra itself) - Land End / Shahrukh Khan's Bungalow / Start of Sea Link etc are all here

By 11:30 am proceed by Taxi (via sea-link ) to Worli (pass by Nehru Planetarium) ; Atria - The Millenium Mall is here; proceed south - Haji Ali Dargah

Option of Mall 2 - High Street Phoenixmills Mall (slightly different route)

Head south to Churchgate - alight at Hutatma Chowk (Flora Fountain) - move south to Museum; Regal Cinema ; Gateway of India

Around 2 pm - LUNCH at Mondegaar's - With Beer

Till 4 pm or so - Come back to Churchgate Station - proceed to Chowpaty Beach

or head to Juhu - Prithvi

Note: Play's at Prithvi are at 6 pm & 9 pm - Hindi

Late Night - Dinner at a Pub around Juu

get this app for everything related to public travel.

train timings, bus routes, auto fares, taxi fares etc.

Pay the auto/taxis by meter using the app above to figure out the charge. If you are arriving via flight you can get a prepaid taxi to wards the right side at the exit.

Although the local train will be the fastest way of travelling in the city, avoid them on saturday peak hours between 8-11am and 5-8 pm. You can plan to use the trains for travelling on Sunday.

I found Candies to be quite pretentious and filled with hipsters. Only thing moderately good was the ambiance and the decor. The food was pretty ordinary too. I'd avoid it unless you want to check it out of curiosity.

One thing is that you won't be ripped off by the Rickshw and Taxi walas in Mumbai so you can leave that question out of your mind (if you had it in the first place that is)

Most rickshawalla travel via meter in proper Mumbai. So you dont have to worry for that but if u decide to got to New Bombay or Thane then the rick wallas will surely take you for a ride.

In South Bombay there are taxis, who will shamelessly refuse to take you to a place if it is close by.

My suggestion is when you exit the airport take a cab and negotiate with him for the whole day till whatever time in the night you want. Am sure it would turn out little more expensive and even more time consuming if u are travelling from Bandra to South Bombay but you will have peace of mind.

Plan suggested by terence_fdes is brilliant. for dinner at night i suggest you goto pali hill and check out pali village cafe or out of the blues(If you dont mind places where booze is served that is). The food is brilliant and mouth watering.

On sunday you guys can go to juhu beach and walk in the sand and stuff like that but make sure it is early in the morning (before 11 or so) otherwise it will become too hot for comfort. Would have suggested evening but would be crowded as hell on account it being a sunday.

Then go for brunch. If you want an expensive option there is JW right at the beach or go to Irla for the Famous pav bhaji at Amar right.

Once you are done with that you can proceed to Hiranandani powai for the karting and just roaming around the place, the architecture is marvelous. You can spend the whole evening there.

After that for dinner you have many options

1) if you are in a mood to spend a lot head to Juhu again and goto some Lounge or something like that and freak out.

2) Ivy - versova for a nice wine and dine (Nothing too fancy but nice)

3) Salt Water grill/Cafe - Bandra behind Lilavati Hospital

4) Amar - Irla if you have not been there in the afternoon

5) just goto Pali hill.

6) This place in Parle for Pav bhaji (In case you did not have it for lunch) - Fellow Mumbaikars please help here forgot the place

7) Icu Cube - Oshiwara full sub zero lounge - Dont like it personally

8) 5 Spice - Chinese/Thai - Bandra (pali) or Oshiwara

6) This place in Parle for Pav bhaji (In case you did not have it for lunch) - Fellow Mumbaikars please help here forgot the place

It is not inside a restaurant or anything but a "Thela" or "Rekdi" on road right ?

The brown color bhaji (instead of the usual red ??).

If yes then it is Maruti Pav Bhaji stall at walking distance from Vile Parle station on west side.

Cannot give exact directions though.

Thanks a lot guys
<
, love you :*

This has given me a good idea about Mumbai, I will try and make my schedule, and post here tomorrow, of what all I have figured out and I would love if you can tweak it and make it perfect

Yes thats the one. It is near the Khao Gali (As they call it) in Parle West. Opens at night only.

NOt much directions needed just go near to parle station and ask anyone they will guide you its not very complicated. You must try this pav bhaji

He want to reach Santacruz & I'm sure your advice bring his Juice Out

OP do not dare to enter in Virar Train without guide (your friend/s)

If you plan to visit Juhu than do not forget to visit ISKON temple, very famous ask any autowally & he will land you there.

I am thinking of planning this as

Day 1 : South Mumbai

Day 2: North Mumbai

I will be booking cab for the whole day and will be travelling by cab only.....

So, what all should be the places to cover in south and north separately and may be along the path to south and north respectively.

You have to experience Local Trains for once. Your Mumbai adventure is not complete without that.

Also if you are getting paranoid seeing the crowds then travel in opposite direction. As in, if want to travel in morning then catch a train going towards Virar / Borivali and if in evening take a Churchgate Bound train.

Places on my list to South mumbai till now.

Candies ( Morning)

Ban Stand, Land End, Phoneix Mall (Afternoon)

Gateway of India, A Good snacks place? (Evening)

Chowpatti beach for sunset

play at NCPA or Prithvi?

Marine drive (Evening)

Dinner at a nice place ? which place along the path till now?

Movie at Night, good movie place along the tour? ( I am thinking of watching movie "Kahani" )

Day2:

North Mumbai

I need to go karting once...any water sport/adventure sport option?

Any other ideas?

Lol...North Mumbai, not North India

Water Sports - No idea but for Water Park you have Water Kingdom but that will eat your entire day.

Thanks, that seems like a place easy enough for me to reach, will go there for karting
<

Also, can you suggest any good beaches ? I heard juhu and chowpati are dirty and over crowded...I dont mind travelling an hour or two to reach a good beach...

Places to eat near Gateway.

Churchill is a very small place and easy to miss while in a cab. I'd suggest Churchill over Mondegars and Leopold. I feel the other two are always overcrowded and too loud. Theobromas is only for desserts.

Colaba http://mumbai.burrp....=&n=colaba&s=OR

Churchill http://mumbai.burrp....rants/192107217

Mondegar http://mumbai.burrp....-pubs/110108099

Leopold http://mumbai.burrp....rants/149147960

Theobroma http://mumbai.burrp....-shops/13265277

Other recommendations nearby.

Gaylords

5 Spice

Kamling

Kamling and Gaylords are right opposite each other and a minute ride away is Marine Drive.

I'd also suggest visiting Phoenix Mall at night instead of afternoon. It also has a PVR multiplex if you want to go for a movie. Lots of eateries in there too.

The beaches are surely crowded but most of the crowd will be located near the entrance and you can have a nice and peaceful walk if you want to get away from the crowd.
