PC Peripherals Calling Dell U2711 users

I have half a mind to get this display. It costs over 40k, so iam not entirely sure whether I should go for it. It woundnt have been too much of a problem if I had been living seperately, but since I would be moving to hyd to be with my family, they would chew my brains out for 'wasting' my money.:P

I need some opinons on this. Is it worth going for? Do you guy's feel that this is worth the extra price over a Dell U2410? I would prefer a 27" over 24" since I would like it to double up as a second tv. Also I wouldnt be upgrading the disp again any time soon. The only other alternative in the 27" category I see in the indian market is the Benq M2700HD.

Also what is the best price for the U2711.

OK this seems like the corollary from the other thread wherein the OP wasn't ready to shell out cash for a bigger display but had a better GPU prowess. :P

Unfortunately, there is just one guy in the forum who has this display IINM. And he rarely posts anything other than the show off threads. So you are better off sending him a PM.

As for using the 27" as a TV. Well, that has it's share of disadvantages as well since the input from the STB would end up being severely pixelated no matter how far you sit from the display while viewing it, the HD DTH STB being less pixelated i.e. IMO you should get the U2410 and spend a bit more and get a Samsung/Sony 32 inch LCD TV if you want a bigger display for viewing the TV.

And chuck the Benq display. It is nowhere in the leagues of these. :/

Alternate if you want to stick to your budget of 40k is get a U2311H and a 32" LCD TV. As Desecrator pointed out, TV will not look good on that high a resolution

Just get the U3011 and tell your family it is a 32inch TV (which is 20-25k?) They won't notice the resolution difference.

(This is what I tried to do, they didn't fall for it.)

^Wouldn't that be a tad above his 40k budget considering the U3011 retails for almost 1500USD abroad? The 3008WFP retailed for almost 80K here, if memory serves me right.

buddy you are buying an IPS monitor to use as a TV, I thought it is (IPS panel) used by professional graphic designers to match accurate color reproduced by CRT monitors as well as Display angles.

If you are single now then you can go ahead and use monitor as a TV if not; buy a monitor for yourself and a TV for your partner

It is a IPS Panel and that is the only reason I would even be ready to spend that much money on it. I had never liked the early TN Panels and the only thing that made be move from CRT to LCD is an IPS Panel based Apple Cinema Display that I saw at my office. I spent 28k to get myself the Dell 20" 2007WFP and I have been using it for more than 4 years now. Now I am finding it hard to convince myself to get a TN Panel based Display and save some cash.

Secondly, I am not buying the Display to use has TV, It will be used as a Display for PC/Console gaming and for work, but I intend to double it as a second TV in my room for my own use.

The main thing is that once I buy a display, I would not be changing it for a few years. So I want to get one that I can use for a while. 27" would be perfect if I am playing games or watching movies/TV from a small distance without sitting right in front of my display. Also, 24" is already mainstream right now and 27" is probably going to be the standard in the near future.

Usually, Dell India prices seem to be comparable to US sale prices. So I thought it would be in the 50k range.

I don't have the 2711, but I've read that the anti-glare coating on it sucks. There have been a few posts about this (search for U2711 anti-glare on Google)

An alternative to this is to remove the coating, at the cost of your warranty.

my U2711 AG Coating MOD - Overclockers Australia Forums
The AG coating on the 2711 is supposedly comparable to the 3011. And the coating is not noticeable. Some people have issues with it, so Nemesis might want to take a look at a 2711 before buying (if possible), but most people won't notice the blurriness/'sparkle' effect.

If the 16:9 AR is not an issue, a 2711 might be a better buy considering it has a slightly smaller pitch size. On the flip side, this also makes reading some of the finer text a bit difficult.
