HD or Normal is entirely your need. If you think you need to have then go for it. Look JVC models .. their 3CCD models are just excellent .. HDD based.

I believe your pocket is deep go for 3CCD !

Doesn't make sense to buy Non-HD now, so I'd suggest either the Panasonic HDC-DX1 or the Sony HDR-HC5, but are almost within your budget
