I had bought a Sony digi cam from Alfa 2 years back. I didn't use it this summer and when now it doesn't start. I tried with new batteries, rechargeable cells etc. and it still doesn't start. Anyone know where i can get this problem fixed?
 
Recently, when I took my 4 year old Nikon Coolpix 5700 (which stopped working) to the camera repair shop, they examined it and said the CCD and a strip cable are to be replaced. I was asked whether I had kept it unused for long which was true. I was also told that proximity to sea also accelerates failure. But I had always kept it in an airtight transparent jar and the lens is still free from fungus. Their charge is 4.5K and I am wondering whether it is worth it!

You can visit any Sony service centre and get it repaired.

i think we need to keep some pouches of silica gel along with the camera to absorb moisture.

OT: same thing happens to phones (with caller ids) - the strip cables invariably stop functioning when the phones are kept unused for a long time.

Sorry, I forgot to mention it. Over the years I have always been doing it and change it when the colour changes. And that is how I prevent fungus. (also the air tight jar)

Btw, I happened to read that even too much of silica gel is harmful and that it dries out the lubricants. (I do doubt whether that was what happened to mine)
