Can an American Express Gift Card be used on Amazon/FK/Croma/eBay?

Need to know because I'm thinking of buying some in bulk for a corporate event.

1) Can they be used on these sites (AmEx site is vague)
2) What happens if someone purchased an item above the GC value (eg. if a person purchases a 1500 item with a 1000 GC, can he pay the remaining with Debit/Credit Card on these sites?(AmEx site is vague again)

Can be used on Amazon, Flipkart and eBay. (have used personally in these sites)
Purchase need to be below or equal to the GC value.
In flipkart, you can buy a e gift certificate of flipkart (with Amex gift card) and make the partial payment through egift certificate and the remaining in whatever way you want. (if the item value is above the gift card value)

That sucks...I guess if I but a Rs. 900 item with a 1000 GC, I'm losing Rs. 100 (unless I want to buy a crap Rs. 100 item...)

You can use the remaining money to buy a Flipkart gift card or can add as Mobikiwik wallet money (yes amex works in the site) and use it in various ways

Thanks everyone, just want to point out that you can also use the AmEx GC to purchase an Amazon.in GC for the same value...and then purchase whatever you want.
