Thinking of getting a Blackberry soon, though not interested in the push email.
Just want to use it for some emails and casual browsing.
Since the BlackBerry data plans are 900+, what alternatives are available for this sort of usage?

I think GPRS would work on Blackberry but you'll have to use third party programs to make use of it.

Alternatively, you could skip buying a BB and get yourself a qwerty type phone and activate gprs which is comparatively inexpensive. That way you can browse websites n check email as well.

Yup, this is what I suspected, was looking for confirmation to be sure.

Is anyone here actually using a BB on GPRS?

Vodafone Mobile Connect - Unlimited GPRS - Rs. 299/- (Only on Voda PostPaid)

Currently using the same plan on my iPhone 3G, Bro using on Nokia E65 and a 2 friends using on Nokia e71 and Samsung Star..

Don't know bout blackberry...

A friend has got BB bold and he bought a new connection today only just for this plan.... will tell in a day or two whether it works or not...

You can use GPRS on BB...but it would be very slow...you have to load custom service books...and it's loads of hassle...and tethering on BB will render your BB out of warranty...so be careful...if you want QWERTY phone then go for Nokia E71/72, Samsung Omnia Pro or Corby Pro...

Good One Mate

If you don't plan to use the push emails and the BBM of the blackberry... your better off using Android or something else.
