Hi all,
Few days back I had a very bad car accident in which my best and beloved friend who was driving the car passed away and I was severely injured including some head injuries ~6-7 stitches.
Now the problem is I cant remember anything about that accident not even what happened 2-3 hours before the accident took place.
I can understand that after accident I can be, not in a position to remember things but what happened to the memories before the accident took place.
This is creating some serious problem for me as I cant take it away from my mind.
I want to recover all of that part back...
If somerone has been ever herad anything like it pls share with me.

God bless you & may you get well soon. In severe accidents, injuries & hard blows to head makes people not to remember anything 3to4 hrs prior to accident & sometimes after that. I hope you get well soon.:thumb:

Hi

My condolences regarding your friend. Your mind may have forgotten that part to "protect" you from the memories. In any case, TE is not the best place to take advice on such a serious matter - please take professional help i.e. visit a psychiatrist/ psychologist. You'll be much better off and there's nothing wrong in that, really.

Skumar though not a doctor its better u give time to yourself and let time pass...There is no guarantee u can recall or not ..

But forcing too much might cause problem to your nervous system so give yourself time

skumar sorry for the loss you suffered. May the soul of departed lay in peace.

Because of Head Injury, there is trauma to the brain, and thats the basic reason behind your immediate memory loss.

Its a physiological thing and may or may not recover with time.

You must continue medicines prescribed to you by your doctor.

And this thing is called "Post traumatic Stress Disorder", you need to employ your mind towards something else so that you can forget the painfull thing.

Hope it helped.

If still the problem persists you should consult a neurologist and a psychiatrist.

You are fine you still remember your password for TE so seems your good no serious damage to brain. May be you are suffering from a little trauma so that can be a reason for your fear. In any case get a CT Scan done if not already and docs would let you know.

First of all my condolences for your friend. I know its hard to loose someone to such an accident.

About the memory loss, it happened to two of my friends. The first friend had a somewhat minor accident (relatively speaking i.e to no loss of life or limb) in that he was taken by surprise at a corner by a speeding bike, lost his balance, fell down and became unconscious after hitting his head hard. No one cared about him lying there for a while, but another friend who was coming that way saw him and took him to the hospital. He was in shock and could not recollect the happenings of that day. The doctors told that he would get his memory back gradually and it did return slowly in the next couple of days. The only thing he could not recollect was about the bike ride itself. Apparently he left the house that that day to collect a CD of mine from another friend and return it to me and this accident happened while he was coming to my place to return the CD. He could recall that he was out to return that CD to me, but he could not recall whether he did return it or not. I just told him to take it easy and forget about it.

The second case was with a colleague at office. He and another colleague were going home on a bike after working late at office. Now this guy was a very rash driver and apparently he was drove very fast that day. Just a bit away from the office, there was a lorry parked and it was filled with metal rods that are used for building concrete pillars. No one saw what happened, but apparently the guy was in no position to stop the bike from colliding the back of the lorry at such speeds, but he was quick enough to notice and duck at the last moment. The other colleague sitting at the back was not so lucky and his death was quick and painless although I was told that it was a really horrible sight to look at with multiple metal rods ripping through his skull. This guy was admitted to the hospital with multiple fractures, flesh injuries and head trauma. He lost about 36 hours worth of memory and over the next 1 month he recalled most of it except for the exact details of the accident itself. He never got back the memory of that accident itself and it was good thing for him too. After all how many in his position would like to recall a memory of seeing a friend dead in such a horrible manner (due his own rashness if I may add) before he lost his own consciousness.

So I would say that you take it easy let your brain recover on its own. If you do not recall some parts, let it be and just consider that it may be for the best.

Afaik, short-term memories take some time to become long-term memories. And if you sustain a brain injury during that time, then those memories never get a chance to become long-term memories and hence are lost.

Sort of like when you are trying to read or study when you are feeling incredibly sleepy. You won't remember anything you studied after you wake up.

I had an accident on bike three years ago...still carry physical marks of it. The last thing I remember is looking at my watch while driving the bike ...the next thing, trying to start my stalled bike, with a bleeding head.

To this day, I just cannot recall what happened in between...All I can say is, don't worry. For a while, I was worried that some permanent damage has occurred to my brain. (Hopefully) I think not!

This is not the right place for asking help we are not medical doctors, please contact your physician, he is the right person to help you.

Man I can just say pLeae & please go & see a good neurologist & psychologist. It will help you recover & clear out your doubts. Take care & god bless you.:)

just remember i was sitting my office and planning for my birthday i.e 16th march.

~2-4 hrs before accident

nothing after that.

And no ideas as to where you were going....
Does something like this strike you?
Sitting in the Office planning --> friend comes --> chatting --> u guys have something to eat there (and drink?) --> u guys decide to go somewhere for fixing something that you had talked upon --> u get inside the car --> more chit chat while driving (probably with music playing) --> something that distracted both of you while onroad ==> HELL ON EARTH

I have a sent mail in my hotmail account and after few days when i checked my outbox I saw that mail I got back everything related to that but nothing else. I remember i got a call and then I mailed an application to my senior.

My friends told me few more events, But I felt those things happened and felt like that few of those were dreams.. and few of them I got remembered correctly...

I remember we were going to attend our friends marriage, Dont know when and how we left from office, and nothing in the car..

Few more left along with us but they were in seperate car. But different routes...

Very sorry for your loss, thank god your safe.loosing a friend is the hardest thing I had to deal with a year ago. I still try not to think of it as it make me feel very sad and lonely.another guy who survived the accident had a black out and still is unable to recollect what exactly happened.

from my personal experience, you may or may not get the memory back...

I had undergone few accidents and few memory losses..
and in my case, I had not get that memory back..

Humble request - plz dont try to force your brain for getting memory back... doctors says [as they said to me] that these type of memory losses are normal when an accident involves any type of heart injury...
These memory loss do not effect normal like {note - I m not talking about injuries}

If someone else was also there, and later if he illustrates what actually happened there.. then you might feel that you are remembering things.. but actually you try to animate those things in mind and give yourself feel that you are remembering.. [as doctor told]

In my case, as my cousin told, after the head injury [due to falling from slide] I was very normal.. I did everything, played [was in water park].. later after an hr when I said I m having head ache, i was taken to the hospital...
next morning when I opened the eye, i didnt remembered anything of previous day.. what happened all day was out of memory,, I even didnt knew the date..

however everything went normal in hour or two for me of the next day
