I would like to use SSDs for speed, but I would also like to have the protection of RAID 1. But I really do not want to have 2 SSDs because of the cost factor.

Is it necessary that RAID 1 disks should be of the same size?

Any other possible hiccups?

If you plan to do soft raid, no problems. But it would not be advisable, IMO as the SSD will give better r/w speeds, leading to an unbalanced RAID config.

wouldnt the hdd be a bottleneck n the performance wud be drastically reduced to hdd level...ssd wouldn't be able to perform to it's max as far as i think
