Can I manually LimiT my internet speed ??

Can we manually limit out internet surfing/downloading speeds so as to not run out of FUP speed limit and then stuck with the pathetic slow Post FUP speeds?

My net plan is about to expire & I'm thinking of buying a quarterly plan which gives me 10gb limit @ full speeds but thereafter crawling speeds for rest of the remaining period, hence the question as I dont want to waste the quality speeds on unwanted stuffs like downloading music, surfing sites etc. but only when the need arises.

I'm not talking of any wireless but wired broadband. Any tool/software which can do this?

You can try 2 applications

1. Netbalancer - free version has some limits
2. Safetynet - this is a firewall application which has a section for controlling speed according to programs and usage http://www.netveda.com/consumer/safetynet.htm

Best software is netlimiter but it should be the paid version

Thanks, netlimiter sounds logical as just tested its trial ver. and it works as promised.

But does restricting the speeds from a users end seriously restricts or impacts or reflects the same at the ISP's end??

Coz I think the ISP'll be simply keep pumping its default FUP speed (10mbps)from its end and its we who restrict it at our ends for our purpose. So logically I dont think this may work or not.

You guys have used it so may be some valid proofs/checks for me to believe actually!! before buying the tool or opting for such isp plans.

Use the trial version for few days and you will know if its working or not by calculating usage.

Sure, will try that. :)

Btw getting this error on Netbalancer start up. Tried latest and many other versions but keeps getting same error.
