i am ordering a WD external hard drive(mybook 3.5") from flipkart, i want to know can i open the plastic external case of it without voiding the warranty and use it in my desktop computer if i want to.

or does it have some kind of seal or sticker above the screws, like the usual one "warranty void if seal broken"?

so any WD MYBOOK 3.5" hdd owner can please take a close look under and on the sides to see if there is some sort of protection against tamper/opening attempts.

no reply :(
no one can look at their drive closely and reply back...so sad :(

someone please give me name of a more active desi technology forum... TE is no longer the same :(

Sorry for the delay.
Kindly do mention which model. There have been some changes hence required.
I had opened a WD Elements, since it was't working and checked the HDD as internal. Then repacked it and sent it to warranty and got a new one. Mine never had screws and I had to pry it out
However do post the flipkart link to the drive. Only then TE mates will have an idea.

^thanks

so your's HDD didnt have any screws or label "warranty void if removed"...thats good...i try not to buy an external drive because in case of an external drive you can lose your data in 2 ways ,either HDD dies or the USB casing but you can never be sure of if HDD is dead unless you open it up and use as internal drive and i guess that would ruin the warranty of external (or will it ruin the warranty on casing only and not HDD).[DOUBLEPOST=1376402959][/DOUBLEPOST]
What!!! You have just joined this forum on Sunday and your second massage on forum is "TE is no longer the same".
i am an old member but i dont usually remember my ids and make a new one everytime i have to ask a question...may be i should start writing down my ids and passwords of all sites.

Me too have Two WD Elements and WD Passport hard Drives. Never opened any but doesn't have any screws or warranty levels on outer case.[DOUBLEPOST=1376404401][/DOUBLEPOST]This video would answer your question.
