Hi, I've Got An AMD Athlon XP 2000+ From About 2002.

Heres My System Specs.

Prosessor - AMD Mobile Athlon XP 2000+ 1.67GHZ.
Motherboard - Mercury KVM400M-U
Ram - 1GB DDR1
Hard Drive - 500GB WD (Not Sure Which One)

Would Like To Overclock To About 2ghz Whilst Still Keeping Standard Fan And Thermal Paste.

Thanks

And By The Way My Prosessor Is Already Unlocked. But Something I Found Was My Bios Shows That The Prosessor Speed Is 133MHZ And I Can Put It Up To 167MHZ. Is This Normal?

CPU Speed = FSB x Multiplier

XP 2000+ (1.67GHz) = 133 x 10

Your processor isn't unlocked. If it was, you could adjust the multiplier.

The 133 ~ 167MHz is your FSB speed; its what you adjust instead of the multiplier since its locked.

I would say avoid it, since I don't think the KM400 chipset had PCI locks. What that means is your PCI bus goes out of spec when you start raising the FSB, and that could result in not so pleasant side effects like data corruption (since your HDD also runs on the PCI bus).

Plus for a nearly 10 yr old board, your capacitors are probably nearing their lifespan, so any additional stress would only kill your board quicker.

If you are willing to risk everything then i'd give you an orange signal. And by experience Mercury motherboards are not good with their lifespan, I wonder how your mobo still works. I am not sure with the stability with your system post overclock but it might trigger some bad side effects. Finally, you wouldn't get much out of it.

Hmmm. I've Got £50 For A Processor And Ram. My Friend Is Going To Give Me A P4 2ghz With No Ram For Free. I'll Prob Buy A Faster Prosessor If The Board Supports It, If It Don't I'll Get A New Mobo And Processor (Probably AMD Athlon II X2 6000+)

I don't think your pci bus speed will be affected if you change the fsb from 133 to 167. If you change it to some value in between then it may be, eg. 145. I had a Via KT600 based board, and that was the case with it.
You can try it, I'm pretty sure it won't harm your computer. If the processor is capable of running on FSB 167 without any voltage change, it'll boot up once you adjust the fsb.
Otherwise it won't and you'll have to reset the cmos, and go back to your current settings. Don't expect any noticeable changes though, an XP 2000+ is terribly outdated. However, it's great that it's lasted you this long. Give the overclock a go, and if it works....great! But keep an eye on your temps. If they cross 50-55 degrees celcius, then go back to your previous setting.
If it doesn't then just reset everything.

I'd recommended changing it to 167, not 145.

Anyway...try and reset the bios. Your board shouldn't have gotten fried, it just won't boot up with the wrong settings.

Next time you want to reset the bios, look for the dip switch on the motherboard, or remove and replace the motherboard battery. Should save you some time.
Hope 167 works for you.
