Can i reach this on A8NSLiDelux & 3500 Venice/SanDeigo

Hi All,

I was completely confused that should i get the DFI NF4 Sli-DR

But i want you guys to confirm that will i be able to reach this
on the below mentioned config.

I plan to buy my new Rig in June or July.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Configs
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ - S939 - Venice/SanDeigo Core
[Thinking mostly abt SD]
[Stock Cooling only]

ASUS A8N Sli Delux
[Love the accessories & Monitoring softwares & stability]
[Doubt will A8N Sli be able to detect the Venice or SanDeigo Core]
[Do ASUS update there motherboard BIOS or can i request ASUSTek to update
the BIOS so that i will be able to detect the new core proc.]
[If the BIOS is not updated how will it detect the new core]

Hynix DDR400 PC3200 2x512MB D43 Chip Dual Channel
[As Darky managed to Overclock it above 280]
[Not Fixed yet]

Help me in Deciding the Ram
- Ram which can run at 2.5-3-2-7-1T or 2.5-3-3-7-1T @ 225-230Mhz
consuming upto 3V at OCed setting as A8N Sli restricts it to 3V max
- Giving be Memory BW in SiDoft Sandra upto 6000-6500MB/s higher than 6.5K is gr8.

Gainward PowerPack! Ultra 1960 PCX XP 128MB Normal [Nvida 6600 GT]
OR
XFX GeForce 6600GT

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Want to Overclock upto following settings

Note:- I dont want to do a 1:1 OC will be using the DDR333 Divider [5:6 Ratio]
& will be using Stock cooling only for Overclocks.

HTTSpeed:- 267/268/269/270
CPU Speed:- 267x10.5 = 2803.5 Mhz upto 270x10.5 = 2835Mhz
[Can be easily reached by Venice and SanDeigo]
[The 3200+ Venice easily reached 2.8Ghz at 1.4v 280x10
check here:- http://www.techenclave.com/forums/showthread.php?p=17143]

Ram Divider - DDR333 [5:6]
Ram Speed - 267x(5/6) = 222.5 upto 270x(5/6) = 225Mhz
Ram Timings - 2.5-3-3-7-1T

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
So now that you have a fair enough idea on how much i intend to Overclock
do let me know if this is reachable on the A8N Sli.

IF can i reach more with the Venice or SanDeigo Core than this then also
let me know about as both have gr8 overclocking capabilities

Also i will be using this Rig for not more than 2Yrs as after 2yrs
i will be going to US for my higher studies.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Will a 1:1 Overclock give me better results than the above mentioned.

With 1:1 Overclock i will reach max 250 but dont know if i will get
such ram here as i am also restricted by the a8nsli upto 3V.

ASUS gives voltages upto 1.55v for CPU but no probs with Venice or SD
reaching atleast 2.8Ghz at a voltage much lower than 1.55v

so max overclock 225x11 = 2475Mhz
& Ram also at 225Mhz
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
If my above mentioned demands are fulfilled with A8N Sli i will suerly go for it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Other things i will be purchasing
- Antec SLK3700 BQE without the PSU available as SLK3700B
- Samsung 793DF or 793MB confused does the Magic Bright have any Advantage]
- DVD Writer Liteon SOHW-1673S
- PSU Confused PowerSafe 500W or Antec SmartPower 450W or Antec True Power 430W
- Microsoft Basic optical mouse
- Logitech Multimedia Kbd.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Do let me know your valuable views and opinions

No one is sure when these cores will be available here in India. Monarch computers in the US expects to ship the Venice ones from May 6th. So one cant predict if Venice and San Deigo can be expected as early as June/July here. And, since u also are keen on overclocking I suggest u go with the lowest rated Venice (say, 3000+/3200+) and invest the money u'll be saving elsewhere - better RAM/ better PSU et al.

Good board! comes with commendable Asus quality and service backup. You may expect a BIOS update once Venice and San Deigo are commonly available, if not earlier.

Decent RAM but these are not what u may wanna buy if u plan on OCing. Ofcourse Darky did OC these to close to DDR600!!! But, then, that was with very loose timings - something like 3-6-6-10. The bandwidth he achieved was commendable, but u r better off with some decent high speed RAM instead.

Either wud be a good card I guess. I am a sucker for warranty, so I wud naturally go with one that has local (and longer) warranty.

Given Winchesters OC that high, Venice and San Deigo have a greater potential of hitting higher clock speeds. So if u r lucky to lay ur hands on a Venice/San Deigo u can safely bet on those speeds.

Going by the D43s that are easily and widely available these days, those speeds and timings can be easily achieved. Or, u cud get some uber high speed RAM and be sure of going even higher with ease.

Well, no one can say for certain if the components you have will OC to any particular level. You can and may do everything right and by the book but still may not end up with what u had in mind. It depends on a lot of variables but the chances of you hitting high speeds with that mobo/CPU u are keen on is very good.

I am not qualified to answer that as I had not had any experience with A64s.. Perhaps someone who's had time to test cud share thier views on that.. darky, funky, bottle, stalkersoftware, rockyme.. hear me? ;)

like i said b4 there is a lot of IFs and BUTs. but given the CPU and mobo, u have a very high chance of higher clock speeds too, depending on how high you could go with the RAM.

- good case

- not much idea about monitors

- again not much idea, but a BenQ 1620 or a LG 4163B shud be a better choice.

- I wud save up on the CPU (get a 3000+/3200+ instead of a 3500+ and perhaps invest in the Antec 550W ;) )

- MS Wheel Mouse Optical (atleast)

- MS or LG M/m K/b

Thanks a lot masky for your time and such a beatiful response.

Regarding ram i want to overclock it to a decent 225 to 230 mhz thats it.
so suggestions for ram are welcome do also try to suggest the model number and cost if possible

and any idea how much time will it take for the venice & san deigo to reach here.

excellent reply Masky, man, now i wanna see that person who calls ur posts spam :ohyeah:

@quad, recently got a Hynix d43 chip, did 225 at 2.5-3-3-6 . well my mobo dosent allow me to go higher with it ;)

well.. most sites in US dont ship to India.. I just mentioned Monarch coz they are the first sellers to be selling Venice and they will ship starting May 6th, if i am not mistaken.. i was refering to them to give an idea of the time frame :)

@ Quad,
Dont get me wrong but all your queries seem to reflect one thing-
You want everything perfect and full proof and you want to overclock.
It doesnt work that way dude if you want to OC.
No one can gurantee a specific OC achievement on a particular setup.
OC'ing is all about trial and error.
SO you have 2 choices-
Either you get a Rock Solid Setup @ Stock Speeds
Or try to get a decent setup suitable for overclocking and then try to remove as much juice as you can from it.
This depends on your skill to overclock.

@ Rave - can you confirm me the model number and what memory BW you
are getting in SiSoft Sandra and the Voltage you supply to the ram at this
OCed settings Please
[no screenshot req just post the figures]
Also let me know can i overclock a bit higher upto 230Mhz with my config.

@Darky - i will be using this new rig for max 2 years after that i will be going
to US for my higher studies and this rig will lie here with no one to take care
and maintain it.

An Overclock in the range of 2700 to 2800 Mhz will be fine enough for me.

Also suggest me a proper power supply for this rig.
Amongst PowerSafe 500W or Antec SmartPower 450W or Antec True Power 430W.

Thanks
