Currently I am on BSNL BBG Combo ULD1495 plan that offers 4 mbps speeds up to 30GB. I intend to bump up the speeds to 8 mbps by migrating to the BBG Super Speed Combo 1745 VDSL plan.

My doubt: Do I need to upgrade my current DLink DSL 2750U modem to a specific VDSL modem? Or can I continue using the same modem at improved speeds?

Damn..! :anguished: That's a pity. The cheapest VDSL modem I could find was somewhere around 6k INR. Now I wonder if I really need that speed bump.

What would be the cheapest reliable VDSL modem that I should be looking at?

Why BSNL forces users to get VDSL ? When ADSL2+ tech itself is capable of up to 24 Mbps.
What is the attainable rate you seeing in your modem stats ?

Yeah kinda stupid of them using VDSL just for 8Mbps. How much is BSNL offering the VDSL modem for?

Downstream attainable rate shows as 14740Kbps. Upstream is 929Kbps.

I have no idea about BSNL modem price. I haven't yet approached them. But from what I see online, BSNL does not provide VDSL modems. It is up to the customer to buy one.

From the stats you seem to be little far from exchange. So with current stats you get stable 4 Mbps attainable rate.
If they increase it to 8096 Kbps your snr margin would drop to 12-14 which is OK. Not bad not good. You might get rare ADSL dropout. But it is manageable and further more line can be improved from your end itself if there is any joints or using better internal wiring cables and good quality ADSL splitter.
Now question is can you push BSNL to give 8 Mbps plan your current line ?

I don't have much hopes about that. Will give it a shot though.
You are right about the distance. My house is quite far from the nearest exchange. I read somewhere that VDSL lines tend to rapidly deteriorate in quality as distance increases. ADSL2 is comparatively better in reach. I guess I should either convince BSNL to provide me increased speeds via ADSL or just continue with the current plan.
