Can my system run Vista?

The thing is, that GTA IV runs crap on Vista with just 2GB RAM. Also, I get frequent FPS drops in AOE3 and UT3.

At 12x10 MAX 4x AA Win XP gives 62 FPS capped while in Vista I get frequent drops forcing me to play without any AA at all. Is that because I have only 2GB RAM or is it that Vista is that much slower than XP for my rig.
People with experience with 2GB VS 4GB RAM in Vista please comment. I did not find Windows 7 much better than Vista in terms of smoothness and FPS drops, although in some games Windows 7 is a bit better. But not in AOE3 or UT3.

Please help me.

I am getting 4GB RAM soon. Which OS should I use for max performance esp in games primarily UT3 and GTA IV?

To bring Windows 7 into comparision, you will have to wait for the proper and mature graphics card drivers for Windows 7 to be released.

As for you future preposition, Vista x64 as of date. And by the time it releases, Windows 7.
 
Well, if u are really going to get an extra 2Gig of RAM, go for Vista 64...It will run with all the available RAM and will be perfectly stable.
I don't thinks there's much of an option anyway. Windows 7 is still not out...:)

But the sad news is GTA IV will run the same whether u get 2GB or 4GB of RAM. :P

A 32 bit operating System will not be able to address 4GB ram efficiently.
 
Your config is good enough to run at medium resolutions without any FPS drops. What resolution are you gaming at?

vista 32 or 64 bit.
4gb will definitely increase avg frame rate in most of the games even in old games.
 
Can my amd xp 2600+/kt400 chipset/radeon 9600xt/512mb ddr run vista with aero? If it could run fine i could upgrade my ram to 2gb. I want to do basic surfing, playing videos and mp3s. Thats all.
 
i am using 2X1GB ram on my mobo....have installed vista(32 and 64) plenty times...bnbut i keep getting back to xp....simply the best when it comes to handling system resources...vista used to drag...
 
Actually higher end Card def show teeth when loaded with 4 Gb ram even though Vista cannot completely address it,(yes there are work arounds)
