Forum Feedback Can someone please Define the Law followed on TE?

had thought abt it long time back that on one had this forum is against piracy then y r there threads promotion invitees and trades of to diff torrent reactors , when everyone knows that all stuff (well most) is pirated only

then i let my thought evaporate in thin air with so many posts and so many members and even mods actively participating there

those threads contradict TE rules in itself

in the end i really dont care wat goes on

Yeah, lets ban the section about DVD writers, pen drives and hard disks too. Its mostly pirated stuff thats stored in them. Or at least restrict the discussion to 256MB and 80GB hard disks only. I heard people buy 1TB drives only to store pirated stuff.

While we are at it, I think we should delete the games, softwares, internet/broadband sections too. People use only pirated games/software and use the internet for downloading pirated stuff.

Well, you are right... We cannot delete all those sections assuming that they are being used for Piracy... We have no evidence for doing that. Point taken...

Well then, why didn't someone come up on the Driving License thread and say that it need not be locked and the OP need not be bashed as there was no proof that the OP had driven or would drive without a license??

Why didn't anyone come up and say on my thread that a question about law does not mean that the questioner intends to break the law nor that the person answering intends to incite the commitment of a crime/offence??

Why was it not viewed objectively then the way it is expected that these threads should be viewed objectively?? Why was it locked down??

Again, I am not posing these questions specifically to you. These are general questions that crop up when I look at your point.

Also, if you may have noticed, I have NOT asked for those threads to be closed/deleted nor have I asked for any action against the persons who have been involved in those threads. That is not the issue here...

1. TE is not a democracy. Its an on-line open forum. People will do and say whatever they want to because the WWW affords that them that anonymity. Just like that the OP did, used his anonymity to make this useless thread.

2. Life is not fair. Move on.

Theres this thing called discretion that mods use, when the rules arent clear. Thread can also be locked for a lot of reasons, especially when the situation might go out of hand.

The rules are clear about piracy though.

Ask for tracker invite = OK

Ask for torrent of copyright material = BAN

When everyone knows that torrents mostly contain pirated files, why isnt any action being taken here?

As for the assumption that the Bittorrent sites are being used for Piracy, you, me and everyone else knows what Bittorrents are being used for...

Well, I am not talking about law just for the heck of it. I am talking about law only coz my thread or the other thread started by sayaan was closed down and the Mods were abiding with law. No issue...

But if my thread was closed down citing the same as illegal, what of the other threads that promote illegality.

Is this not injustice?? And all I intend to do is bring up this matter in the Feedback section so that someone proves me wrong.

It is difficult to believe let alone prove that the P2P Section is perfectly legal and clean and that it has not occasioned or fueled any illegal actions on the part of TE Members on or off the forum.

Then how come a thread asking about the punishment for driving a vehicle without a driving license is not allowed on TE on the grounds that it involves illegal activities??

There is a difference between accusing a person and stating a fact.

If I make statements against a person & demand action against a person, I am accusing him.

If I just make a statement that I believe it for a fact that the P2P section is being used for illegal activities, I am stating a fact that I believe to be true.

And this is not even about any person/persons. This is about justice being done on equal grounds. If an act is illegal, it is illegal irrespective of the cover that it may take.

So, NO. I am not Accusing but only Stating what I believe to be true.

Actually we, who live in India, can't escape from illegal activities (like piracy, etc) no matter what we do as it has become sort of embedded in our DNA.

We basically don't bother about the big repercussions of our small actions because we are very simple and basic in nature and hence the only basic thing visible to us is something that is FREE!! :tongue:

I am just talking about Indians here (including myself).

Anyone who got offended, is welcome to generalize it for any country.

I see this as your only valid point in the entire fancy colored multi font posts. So if a mod closed it on the grounds of illegal activity then I beg to differ with that mod. Everyone on TE is entitled to his or her views within the limits of decency. Closing that thread is tantamount to banning movies like Fast and the Furious coz they cause death. However I am sure it was closed because some of you don't know how to handle yourselves online and TE is not a creche for you babies.

Do you think TE is here to make this world a better place or make TE members a responsible citizen. Well the answer to both is - Its not on our agenda right now. We will pick you as a mod when we decide otherwise.

Now before you rush back and hide behind the driver's license fiasco, let me tell you the difference. TE is responsible for the content on public display. We are not responsible for personal views expressed by people unless they break the rules laid down.

Just as we do not intend to read your PM and ban you for conducting discussion against TE policy, we do not intend to follow what you do with your torrent invites and ratios.

PS - The only reason you got a reply out of me is because you posted this in the feedback section. Though I personally feel this does not belong here as your question is not for TE but for other members as you want to discuss philosophy of life.
