Nope... don't expect to get it back.
Doesnt they provide gps tracking.Though i told the same old method bribe the police or service provider to help them trace via imei number.

yes you can get it back. no need to bribe.

my friend recently lost a bb torch and the police recovered it for him in around 2 weeks via gps.

Via gps...how exactly i am total noob to this gizmo.

What should he say to the police. Is IMEI number needed for same ?

Few years back my Nokia 6270 was stolen and recovered by Police using IMEI no. as well .Took them ~1 month but I got it back in a terrible condition . If they register an FIR for theft ,they do actually work on tracing it . Getting them to register a proper FIR might require either bribing or some contacts :(.

The reason why i said that its unlikely is that with today's blasts , i doubt the police is going to actually devote time to a lost cellphone.

Sure its possible to locate it , depends on model << GPS Method >> or the good old IMEI , FIR required here and this might need bribing unfortunately.

@magnet Which network were you on previously?

If you get a FIR done, you can approach the desired network's head office. If the phone is stolen and on then I guess the phone company can provide you with traingulation position of the phone , plus also info about the incoming/outgoing calls.

You can then try calling those numbers.

start with the most popular network in mumbai which I guess is orange/vodafone

Okk took friend to nearest police station. An inspector stopped us at gate we said the reason for coming and he started asking idiotic questions like why you coming so late after 18 hours when you blocked, how you blocked. What proof you have of blocking and so on.

The so called friend is 14 years of age and his dad is out of town also that bugger revealed it happened in other area even though i was prodding him to keep his mouth shut.I asked what is the procedure to file FIR for same.

The inspector says first go to gallery take the block number and also in detail writing where you lost the mobile and also analysis by the service provider when the request for blocking came where was the SIM and so on.

So we left station and went to gallery.Gallery was busy interested in selling a new replacement sim.We said our trouble and they were like i can only give in writing this is the request number(there is nothing as block number or so) for sim lost and a stamp of the center thats it.

Also for tracking one should contact company i.e BB for tracking.

I asked the chap whether he called BB and gave IMEI number .He said BB is saying they cant do anything.

WHat are the options left. Also is the police station right or he is just fooling around.ATleast gallery was helpfull for 10% of the effort but the station looks to me as fooling.

We are placed in Mumbai.

That station police is just not interested in doing fir. I guess he wants money, lazy fellow. The only thing you need is proper mobile phone invoices with purchase date and the name of ownership with imei no. The police fir is no way related to phone no. Or the sim that you were using previously. Pls approach some other station where the staff atleast knows about these things.
Regards.

Yes that fellow went with his mom latter and the station was we dont have tracker installed at our place. Plus once we find the mobile we will call you and you will have to identify from 20 pieces which is yours to prove which is yours or you lying.

Plus on top of that the letter which vodafone gave they werent ready to accept saying. It doesnt mention bill of purchase of handset ,where you lost the piece .Where was your mobile when it was blocked. Some block id from customer care(vodafone says there is nothing as such block id).Where exactly you lost it and also at what time the cell was block with stamp on it.

I am like how can vodafone verify that this is your handset plus on top of it what if someone buys a mobile from grey than what doesn't he own right to the mobile.
