I have a hp DeskJet, don't exactly remember the model number. Has been packed since 3years now after the cartridges were exhausted.

Will I be able to get it working if I get the cartridges replaced or is it dead?

Its a pain to run miles for a printout. Kindly suggest what can be done?

You'll never know until you try. Power it on, if it works... woohoo!!

Refill your cartridges instead of buying new ones, and you're set.

If you have to buy new cartridges, it may just make more sense to get a new printer.

Or...buy a bike so you don't need to run miles for a printout!

If the cartridges which were packed had around 10% of their ink then you can refill it and should be able to make it work.

Else, you will need to get new cartridges.

Anyways, try it out first and see. If you need to get new cartridges, see the cost and proceed accordingly. Also, it might be better to invest in an AIO instead.

Well first up, unpack it.

Replace the cartridges with fresh ones, also please clean the innards for any dust-bunnies, normal dust formed on the feed tray. Please note, clean the various ports [USB connector, power connector] and then power up the printer.

Once this is done, give it a shot I think it should work without a hitch. If it doesn't well time for you to get a new printer / all in one.

Hope this helps, Cheers!!

Thanks for the reply guys. Will unpack and see the status of the printer. What could be the cost of refilling the color and black cartridges?

Can be as low as ~100/- quid for the Black cartridge and ~150/- for the CMYK cartridge [this was quoted to me in Gandhinagar, Gujarat], average prices are ~150/- -->200/-.

Hope this helps, Cheers!!

Cartridge refilling may not be a very good idea since the ink could have clogged the heads so the quality is likely to suffer even if refilling is successful

Agree with the post above. Your cartridge will have clogged heads by now.

Your printer should work fine, assuming the drive belts are in good shape.

Getting new cartridges will be the problem, and in some cases not worth the price. Which printer is it?
