India has voiced strong objections following reports that social media pages of an Australian news outlet were blocked in Canada. This occurred hours after the outlet aired a press conference featuring Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, along with an interview with Jaishankar. India claims that Canada’s actions reveal a double standard when it comes to freedom of speech.

Canada is the epitome of hypocrisy. I very well remember Justin preaching about respecting protesters during the farm laws fiasco...And then declaring an emergency to stop and dismiss truck proters back home.

Wait for the next general election and hope the rightwing Polievere wins.

Progressives have been halted in the US. So those anti Israeli protesters and supporting orgs are going way.

Basically this leftwing oppresor-oppressed BS thinking goes away.

You can protest all you want but not go attack anyone you want.

If the right wins in Canada these khalistani twats won't have a voice any more.

It's not Canada blocking the Australia today it's meta blocking access to news if you read carefully it says that social media pages of an Australian news outlet were blocked in Canada and not the article itself.

From the above article:

Where will news be blocked?

Currently, content from Canadian news platforms is not visible on Facebook or Instagram for most Canadians.

Meta said Aug. 1(opens in a new tab) that the company had "begun the process of ending news availability in Canada," and that the changes will be implemented for all Canadian users of its social media platforms.

The news block includes links to news articles and video or audio posted by Canadian news outlets. Any links or other content will not be viewable by the public. News publishers outside of Canada will be able to continue to post, but their content will not be visible by Canadian users either.

During recent wildfire emergencies, Meta's refusal to pull back on this news pullout was widely condemned by political and community leaders.

How are news organizations impacted?

Publications that make the delivery of news their main focus are meant to be the beneficiaries of Bill C-18. Instead, "eligible news businesses" are having to find ways to go around the tech giants to distribute their journalism.

The definition of what counts as a news business according to the legislation is an "individual or entity that operates a news outlet in Canada," and a news outlet is any entity whose "primary purpose is to produce news content."

The legislation states that news businesses are considered eligible as long as they fall under certain requirements, including:

An eligible news business also must produce news content "that is not primarily focused on a particular topic such as industry-specific news, sports, recreation, arts, lifestyle or entertainment," according to Bill C-18, suggesting that lifestyle magazines and similar publications may not be affected by Meta blocks.

CTV News, CP24 and BNN Bloomberg, which are all part of Bell Media and owned by parent company BCE, will be affected by the news block. In response, Bell Media has pulled all of its advertising from Meta.

How to access news amid Meta's ban

Canadians are still able to access Canadian news sources by navigating directly to their websites or mobile apps.

Signing up for newsletters or subscriptions is another way to stay up to date with the latest news directly from the sources that matter most to you.

Bookmarking your most frequently visited news websites now will allow you to navigate to them quickly even if their links are not being shared when you search a topic on Google.

Canadians will also still be able to see news from international and Canadian news sources through Google.

while justinder defied his own party's ultimatum & stayed on (why would he embarass himself more by accepting; or may be he would, in other ways), jagmeet read the writing & withdrew his support earlier while continuing with his gibbering against india (and got laughed at by canadian journos). and now musk has predicted the fall of the canadian govt as well, esp with no support now coming to them from the new american dispensation for the puppeteering game they were playing. thus this scenario now looks even more likely. their 'voice' in england & australia too would likely go muffled.

Didn't know about this. Why are the headlines totally worded differently?

I'm disgusted that to maintain your vote bank that relations with India can go for a toss.

Only $8bn bilateral trade so not a big deal. This is crazy thinking.

This excuse that one is left and other is not is bogus. Both represent people of the two countries and their job is to make it work.

Yup I agree that Trudeau is cozying up with khalistanis and also a hypocrite when it came to highways being blocked/bank freezes but this article is just falsifying/exaggerated claims. I guess it's just a game of geopolitics Canada using USA as support system to claim five eyes have intelligence about the diplomats plotting the kill whereas we use Indian diaspora abroad to further our own goals.

With Trump in the Whitehouse, things might change for Canada. Trump's upcoming staff is also India-leaning like Tulsi, Viviek, JD and Trump has been close to Modi so I do expect US Relations to improve.

I'm guessing people not in Canada sent Facebook links to their friends in Canada and when Facebook didn't load it, people started spreading conspiracy theories. Facebook accounts of other outlets like NYT and WSJ are not accessible from Canada.

If only they had looked up why it is so before crying foul.

Justin Trudeau acknowledges Khalistani problems in Canada, says not all Hindus are Modi supporters; ‘Many are…’

Canada is getting extremely hostile. Go to Reddit and you'll see such blatant racism against India. Indians are also facing repeated attacks and discrimination. IMO we should downgrade our relations with them after Trump takes office.

Wut? Some Canadians are racist but how's that related to a racist president in another country? Do you even know what Trump's party is proposing? Hint: It's called denaturalization.

And if you think Canadians are being racist, you should look at how MAGA racists are behaving these last few days. They are only going to get bolder after Trump takes office.
