First of all hardware specs
1. Corsair VX450
2. Core i3 2100
3. Gigabyte GA-H61M-D2-B3
4. Corsair 2GB x 2 1333 MHz.
5. 1 TB x 2 WD green
6. Sapphire HD5770 1 GB DDR5
7. Windows 7 Ultimate, 64 GB

The computer was working fine and proper shutdown was taken last time it was running. When trying to start again, Option for launching startup repair or start windows normally appears. On trying Startup repair, Windows is loading files appears. After loading is completed, windows logo appears and windows freezes there. Things I have tried.
1. Created and booted from a bootable windows 7 pendrive. Windows is loading files appears and after loading is complete, windows logo freezes. The same bootable pen drive is able to boot another computer.
2. Created a bootable ubuntu pen drive. Ubuntu freezes at the boot options page (try ubuntu without installation, install ubuntu on hard disk, memtest etc. page). Same pen drive boots into ubuntu on another computer.
3. Tried FreeBSD. FreeBSD panics with Fatal Trap 12 error. same hard disk works on another computer.

On hardware side, i have tried,
1. Reset BIOS by removing CMOS battery
2. I upgraded the BIOS from gigabyte website as when i was pressing F12 for boot options, there was a black screen and no boot options. Also Qflash only started after numerous attempts. I found this behavior odd. The flashing was uneventful and completed successfully. Now F12 is working fine.
3. Removed graphics card and booted from windows 7 hard disk, pen drive, and ubuntu pendrive. Same thing. both freeze at bootloader.
4. Removed one RAM and tried in both slots. same result.
5. Installed other RAM on both slots. same result.
6. Installed 1 RAM from other computer. same result
7. Installed both RAM from this computer in other computer. they run just fine there.
8. disconnected both hard drives and DVD rom. Then booted from windows 7 pendrive and ubuntu. Same result.
9. Tried booting with only non os drive and windows7 - ubuntu. Same result.
In all cases display OK beep comes and continuous beeps come when both RAM slots are empty.

I am inclined to think that there is something wrong with the motherboard or the processor. I just want to pinpoint what exactly it is.

nope. will try today. But i have also tried booting the machine with a new RAM stick and the RAM stick in question are 2, and they work in other desktop. So that drives the probability of them being faulty very low!

Hello Vaibhav ... Im No expert but .. heres a thought could you tell me the harddisk setup config on your mobo(Bios setting) ... if your trying to run it as an ahci config rather than an ide config that could coz an issue .. of going into a windows boot loop as it were coz Ive had a similar issue thinking it was my proc or mobo but it was neither heres a guide of what you can try and I hope it works

Disable AHCI in BIOS; turn HDD configuration to IDE
Click Start, type regedit in the Search box, and then press ENTER.
Locate the following registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Msahci
In the right pane, right-click Start in the Name column, and then click Modify.
In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
Reboot your computer and boot into BIOS setup
Turn on AHCI in your HDD configuration

If Not ill try to troubleshoot further with More details if you can provide them ... good luck

He is running an i3. AHCI problems stopped around the time the core2duo's came to market.

For OP: Your components left to test are: proc, mobo and psu. PSU is the easiest to quick check, go to BIOS and see the voltages. Also, on the mobo on a visual inspection, do you see any of the cops swollen or mis-shapen?

an update.
1. Prepared Memtest bootable usb using unetbootin. Gets stuck on boot screen.
2. Changed power supply to a brand new Corsair CX430. Stuck at boot screen. So power supply is out of the question
3. Re seated the processor. No go.
4. AHCI IDE, i think doesnt matter when booting into the OS for the first time. I have tried live ubuntu, Freebsd, memtest, everything gets stuck at boot screen. But for checkings sake i checked in the bios and found that the SATA controller was in IDE mode. And i think i had installed windows with IDE mode only.

Now the processor and motherboard are under warranty so i can claim warranty. My doubt is which component should i give to RMA? the motherboard or the processor? I fear that the service center guys will declare everything ok as the motherboard POSTs just fine and reading about processor failures online, I have no such symptoms. Very Odd failure this!!!

see in these tests the common thing is motherboard and I suspect the ram slots are to blame here [ but this also could be due to SB chip or something else ] .. so submit the motherboard for RMA and tell them test with their ram module.

Prepare memtest on a CD . Can't go wrong with that...

Since its a 4x RAM slot board try to boot with both RAM sticks in the secondary slots

To test RAM plug in each stick separately in the primary RAM slot...
