i had this problem starting serious sam 2 which i am still having
i just installed oblivion and when i try to start the game it says cannot initialize renderer and then i installed most wanted and i have the same problem again
farcry,doom3 and half life 2 work just fine
i have a leadtek 7600gt and the driver version is 91.31
tried installing directx9.0c again but still the same problem
and by the way when i run dxdiag under the Directxfiles tab in the bottom it says-The file qasf.dll is an old version and could cause problem.reinstall to get the latest version.
i have a windows xp sp2 beta,could this be the problem by any chance?

. Just reinstall your display driver.
