H..

I just got a belkin G router. The router is fine. Everything is connected and working. But i cant get the setup page '192.168.2.1' or easy setup using the CD provided also. It says no communication between PC and router.

and the network icon in the task bar is showing with a exclamation mark, the one that shows when something is wrong.

I tried to resolve it, but no use. I had BSNL modem attached to the PC earlier. I removed that settings and now its no Automatically detect the settings, but no use.

Any ideas???.. is reinstall OS the only way??..

The router is showing all lights with steady green lights.. so i guess that side is ok...

Any thanks appreciated.

It seems as if there is some problem with the network card.
Are you using onboard LAN or is an ethernet card attached to a PCI slot on your motherboard?

If you connect your previous BSNL modem to the ethernet port, is the connection being detected or does it still show the exclamation mark? Can you connect to internet using your old BSNL modem?

If your network card does not recognise the BSNL modem too, then go to the Device Manager, remove your network card/LAN from list. If your PC does not detect the card at that moment, reboot. The New Hardware Wizard will run and if you have special drivers for your LAN, install it.
Now see if you Belkin router is detected or not.

By the way, is the configuration page of the Belkin router 192.168.2.1?
All the modems/routers that I have seen till now have the config page at 192.168.1.1 (Check your router manual for correct address of configuration page. It can vary from company to company)

You can do another thing too.
Open command prompt by typing "cmd" at Run, type "ping <address of config page>" (i.e if config page is at 192.168.1.1, type ping 192.168.1.1 ) and see if your PC can contact the router.

If possible post a screenshot of the command prompt showing the result of ping command.
P.S: How much did the router cost?
Does it have an inbuilt modem? (i.e can I attach the phone line to the router directly instead of the BSNL modem?)

1) Reset your router to factory settings (just in case)

2) Set your computers IP address to 192.168.2.2, Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0, Gateway 192.168.2.1

3) Now the run the setup wizard

Yes...do it...also i think you might have configured your computer for static ip or you might have setup the dns to something else...so set the dns to 192.168.2.1 and connect the router through cable provided.

Ok..

So i tried the ip renew thing first...

But it gave me a could not contact DHCP error.

So i tried resetting the router, pushed the reset button for 10 seconds.

No i can get the IP info. and the Router settings page in 192.168.2.1. but the language is german and there is password.

The previous owner was german so its ok.

I thght the reset will remove everything and give me factory settings. Any ideas??

And the network icon in the task bar is still is showing the yellow exclamation. why?.. I dont have a net connection now.so is that why.

Well default password for Belking G router is blank...just press on Login button without entering any password in password field...see if you are able to log in..

^^^

Yes...

Actually i just found out from another site..another method to reset..let em try that and report back.

So... I resetted again... and tried getting the 192.168.2.1 page. No password at all. So thats cool.

But language is still german. how do i change that. checked online but couldnt find anything.

And the network icon in the taskbar still shows the yellow exclamation icon.

But the default gateway, IP and all are correct and ok.

SO..using manual settings i cant change the language.. So the previous owner suggested to update the firmware.
I even used the "Restore to factory settings" from the 192.168.2.1 page. no use.

So i donwloaded the firmware from this site Belkin : Support : F5D7234-4 G Wireless Router - Firmware

My router is Belkin G Wireless router, Model No: F5D7234-4 v1

So mine is version 1.. so downloaded the V1xxx firmware and will flash it tonight.

Do u guys think that this be enough?
and ANYONE please say why the network icon still shows exclamation.

I have no internet modem connected, is that why?

So.. Updated the firmware and language is changed... the earlie one had DE prefix so guess that pblm is solved...

but still the yellow icon in network icon is there..

and i thght when i wirelessly connected my PS3 to the router the machine LED's 1 and 2 will blink... but only 1 LED was one.. although my PC was on at that time..
