I have the Prithvi branded BSNL EVDO modem.

This is the guide that I followed - http://www.indiabroadband.net/bsnl-...nl-evdo-prithvi-ue100-modem-linux-ubuntu.html
In that guide, he was using Ubuntu but I am using Linux Mint 13 (Mate edition). That should not cause any problem since Mint is based on Ubuntu.

After I insert the modem, after sometime on clicking on the Network Manager icon in the system tray, I can see this -

Since it shows BSNL EVDO connection, I am assuming that Mint is detecting the modem.

But when I enter wvdialconf in the terminal, I get this output -
Code:
mint@mint ~ $ wvdialconf

Sorry, no modem was detected!

Is it in use by another program?

Did you configure it properly with setserial?

What should I do now?

I was using a Live CD mode on a flash drive with persistent storage enabled.
I think in Live CD mode, the default user has superuser permission already. But I will try your suggestion anyway.[DOUBLEPOST=1368908696][/DOUBLEPOST]Looks like using sudo wvdial did solve the modem detection problem.

But after this, when I open Firefox, I am not able to visit any website. It shows Page not available.
Tried to download something using the package manager, even then it could not connect to the repository. Seems like the modem is connected to the internet but the OS is not able to understand that.
