The Image Resource Preview: Canon EOS 500D Rebel T1i

.....

In that arena, I have some very good news. The Rebel T1i's images look as good as the Canon 50D's images, and in some cases better.

Canon 500D Hands-On: 50D's Sensor, 1080p Vids, $US899 (!!) : Gizmodo

The rumours were true. Canon has crammed the $US1500 50D's sensor and 5D-Mark-II-like 1080p video capture into an $US899 entry-level Rebel. We ran it through its paces for a few hours, and it's awesome.

Full sympathies for the Nikon D90. :D

Know that this SLR is a kinda- Eye Candy. But it does have a different section for it though. Mods, pls shift accordingly.

^ Yep definitely. I just hope they've upgraded the viewfinder to a pentaprism though, the pentamirrors' in earlier Rebels were a major PITA.

i think viewfinder is the place the nikon has the advantage and the body.
but i was hoping the 500d would be cheaper like $600

1080p is just PR,its 20fps and very jerky,if you have seen the samples, its not useful.Only 720p is usable.

and i like how it inherited the high ISO perf & NR algorithms from 5d.

^ Yes. FullHD is just a Marketing Gimmick! Its noway close to acceptable standards. Hence, quite Jerky. 30fps was the thing.

Also, it doesn't have a pentaprism. Its Pentamirror here too.

And also expect the same Noise and High ISO Debates which came along with the 50D. Coz this 15MP just seems to suggest.

^^ Thats because you get a slightly better (but much more longer ) kit lens. When spending so much for a body, it makes sense to use a better kit lens. The 18-55mm kit lenses are fine for most people on a budget. A $200 difference at a price point of $500 is huge. But not when you are ready to spend $900.

A real glass Pentaprism is really the way to go since you will make your composition using the viewfinder. A pentamirror viewfinder is a compromise for DSLRs. They are dark and have a tunnel like effect. I tried a pentaprism on a an old Minolta Maxxum camera and I went WOW ! It was huge, bright and did not have that awful tunnel effect.

no the body only price of canon is MSRP $799,where as the MSRP of nikon D90 is $999,but agreed that for most people who spend that much wont matter about the $200.
