Canon Ixus 100IS or Sony T90. these 2 have been on my mind since a while now. keeping it simple please tell me which one to get and why. planning to use it for 2 or 3 yrs minimum. canon costs 14500 with 2 yrs warranty while sony costs 16000 with 3 yrs warranty. in the past ive had nikon and sony. let me know which one to get. i want hd movie recording so considering these 2. budget nothing more than 16 which i have streched in this case for the sony. it was 15k earlier. thanks and hoping for quick inputs need to buy this week itself.

The canon will give u better quality pics between the two. Read reviews at steve's digicams for both, that would help.

i expected more out of this thread people. come on 2 votes for canon. just help me out here asap. also which color RED OR BLACK OR SILVER.

I am also deciding between these two models coz nly these two satisfy my needs ie. high def vid rec and in small form factor. by the way from where ru getting T90 for 16k . its listed on their site for 17990 and m getting for 17.7k.

Huh ? Pick the colour of your choice.

Between the two, I'd go go for the IXUS 100 !

simple, stylish , good IQ & supports SDHC cards...

The T90 is crap.

hmm just saying crap doesn't make any sense IMO .I'm not saying T90 is good either ,but since I haven't used Sony I'm in no position to comment on it .

can you elaborate why T90 is crap ?

Personally ,I will go with canon as a brand for point and shoot (I'm only wth IXUS series and I hate lowerend poweshot series personally because I had terribly bad experience with powershots overall).

1.Sony

*3inch Screen LCD screen

* 4x optical (mind you this is something that you should look at IMO )

2.Canon IXUS 100IS

*2.5 inch screen

* only 3x optical zoom (quite an old fashioned IMO )

you check out this

Well,IMO you can also look for Panasonic too .I have heard really good things about Panasonic

I have seen a few images straight out of a similar "stylish, touchscreen P&S (T series?) " from Sony and they were comparable to a camera phone !

Well,No idea what are talking about .I have only seen and used Sony T5 (quite a long time back ) .It produced quite a decent images .Still far better than what camera phone produces .

keep in mind it depends upon how the user uses its camera also .I have seen many people shooting at higher ISO (in point and shoot ) and complains it is terrible .its because point and shoot are never made to shot at higher ISO (its just gimmick).

@@jesal: in b/w one ,one more point that I forgot to mention .

Try to get a camera with at least aperture size f2.8 and 4x optical Zoom .Both Sony and Canon models you have selected has f3.2 .
.

example : (if you can stretch your budget a little )

LUMIX DMC-FS7 | Digital Camera | Digital AV | Panasonic India

Digital IXUS 860 IS - Digital Cameras - Canon India

I guess both doesn't have HD ready tough :(

If you must know:

1. Terrible image quality. Noise reduction is way too high and can't be disabled. Photos just turn out patchy with no details.

2. Very iffy interface. The touch screen needs to be pressed very hard with the nails. It's simply too inconvenient to use. I also wonder what the long term damage to the LCD will be after all the nail-pressing.

3. Proprietary interface (if I remember correctly)

4. Grainy LCD display. Even potentially good photos look terrible through live view or in preview mode.

It looks good, I'll give it that. But that just about makes it appropriate for style buffs. I need more out of a camera and than slick looks and sneak-ability.

Phew. I hope that helped.

yeah now this will help jesal a bit .

Well ,I forgot that it has touch screen one of the biggest negatives it has got .

@jesal

:

try to look at other options I gave you .

Edit :

Keep in mind both the cameras you have selected are just HD ready not purely HD .They support 720p not 1080p

are you only sticking with small compacts ?

well ,I have used Fujifilm S2000HD recently and its an amazing camera for the price .Colours of the pictures are very good plus it can record full HD(1080P) and comes under Rs 15000 with 3 years warranty

Was my friend's camera (quite sure its from the T series) and pics were taken by him.

Images were dull and some even blurred, inspite of turning on the necessary features.

imho, T Series = Style > Touchscreen > Ease of Use > Image Quality !

yes 720P in video mode (1280x720 rsolation)
.
whereas a true HD is 1080P i.e 1920x1080.

Not a sleek and compact ,but Fujifilm S2000HD is under Rs 15,000 (around Rs 13,500) and has full hd .

its cheaper than sleek ,compact camera because companies tends to charge more for smaller things .
