PC Peripherals Canon MP180 scanning quirk..

I recently purchased the Canon PIXMA MP180 which is advertised in the specs as having a 2400x1200dpi optical scanning resolution; however, in the software that comes bundled with the printer, support only up to 600dpi exists.

Any MP180 owners aware about this strange mystery? How can I scan using the full power of the scanner?
