Can't connect to vodafone 2g

Since today morning, I'm facing this problem. I have subscribed to 3g 1GB pack of vodafone for 250 a month. till yesterday, I could browse even on edge using the same pack. from today morning, I don't get the E symbol in status bar of phone. in one room I get 3g signal and phone connects to it properly and shows 4g
If I go outsides this room, the phone usually falls back to edge signal and shows E while browsing. But now it does not show anything and phone status shows as disconnected from internet.

Is this because vodafone and other operators have increased their 2g rates?
I tried every option, like deleting apn, etc, bit none worked. Even called up customer care. They are telling it might be sim card got spoilt. If it got spoilt how can I connect to 3g then?

Turn data on and off and see.
Remove SIM and clean it and put again inside.
Try the same SIM in another phone.

I did all that. Even cc asked me if I did those things. Weirdly, I can only get 3g in phone now. I think they must be disabling 2g access for people on 3g plans.

What ? That should not happen. And infact won't happen i believe. I sit in a building whole day and 3G signal is pathetic so i keep my phone on EDGE entire day, if it is only 3G then i will have to keep my phone on charging as well as less 3G signal drains the battery a lot.

If you have a 3G plan then you should be able to connect to 2G also.

I use Edge when sitting at desk.

Did you put your phone to "WCDMA mode only"? Check in Network Settings.

I m using 3G pack of 102 on EDGE most of the times when I m out of home. No such issues. At home I use WiFi.

I checked it in phone settings. It was on wdcdma only mode. Then I changed it to gsm only mode but still it does not connect to edge. It shows E for a second and then the E disappears. So as a last option, I factory reset the phone. Now its on gsm(prl) out something and I get same problem. It won't connect to edge.

Just now tried old Sony phone which has only 2g. It got settings to connect but couldn't connect to net. It does not get that blue inverted bars and says some network error.
If I dial *#*#4636#*#* I get those detailed settings. How do I make it gsm only and save it. It seems to be on gsm(prl) and does not change.

Just for updating the thread. The problem got solved few days back. Seems to be some tower problem. Just as suddenly as it had gone, the edge network came back suddenly too.

Here in Mumbai, there was a similar issue, but with both 2G and 3G, albeit seperately. Andheri (2G) and Vashi-Sanpada(3G)
