Can't edit registry in Windows Vista Ultimate!!

Whwnever I try to editr the registry in windiws vista Ultimate I get the following message "

Error creating value
Cannot create value: Error writing to registry

"
What could be the problem?

You need to run as administrator to be able to write the registry. Right click on regedit, Run as administrator. That should work. Note that this is required even if your account is listed as an administrator.

Just tried as u said...I am getting the same message again....:(

No. What you should do is try editing the registry, then immediately checking the event log and see whether there are any new errors, that have occurred in the last couple of minutes.

You may also want to do a chkdsk /R c:

It'll require a reboot and a long check (I do mean long, on my 20G partition it took a good 30 minutes), but it fixed some corrupted files.
