Can't install Photoshop CS4

I cant install Adobe Photoshop CS4, when i click on setup.exe, nothing happens,:S setup.exe is listed in the task-manager, but it doesn't consume any processing power.

Please help me to install this as i need it to edit some pictures (and its urgent). Previosly i installed from that same media without any problem, but now.
I have attached a screen shot of my task manager. My system configuration is reflected by my signature. As for AV, i use Avast Internet Security.

:S If you have Linux on your PC, then try installing Photoshop using Wine.. Photoshop works flawlessly in Linux..

Otherwise, if its urgent then you can try GIMP. It is an open-source software and stands as an alternative for Photoshop..

^ portable version is compatible with XP too (u can use older portable versions too) ... Is it that you can't download it or something else ??

One of the best alternative is Paint.NET ... only 3.5 MB (of course u need .Net runtime installed) ... Paint.NET - Free Software for Digital Photo Editing

Try this :
Shift+right click on the setup file
Run as... (your credentials or admin credentials if any)

If that does not work, right click on the setup file > properties > Run as administrator.
If that still does not work,

start > run > type
msiexec /unreg (hit enter)
start > run > type
msiexec /regserver (hit enter)

Try if any other setup file is getting executed or is it only the photoshop .exe which does not run. If thats the case,
Download a fresh copy. Possibly the setup.exe is corrupt.

Update you .net version to 3.5.

Thanks for your responds, its didn`t wok

, istill can`t install CS4. Other setups works without any problem, but the setup is not corrupt because i am trying to install from optical media, so it not corrupt and also because i can install from the setup in my virtual PC.

Can`t understand?? why the setup is not consuming and processing speed

I have already installed .net framework 2.0 and 3.5.

download a new copy of CS4 and install it using the legit key you have.

Did you check if the same disc is working on different computer?

Update :

If you have an older version of photoshop, clean it up completely before you start the steps below.

Note : run this even if you dont have CS3, just to be on a safer side.

1. Remove everything single adobe related programs and adobe files in the Common Files Folder (My Computer>Local Disk (C> Program Files>Common Files)

2. Go to your services (Start>Run> services.msc) (Or Right Click On My Computer Click MANAGE Then Click SERVICES AND APPLICATIONS>SERVICES)

download the latest windows installer 4.5 from microsoft's website, restart the system and then try.

3. Enable and start any programs that relate to installations. (for eg. Application Management, Windows Installer).

4. Disable your Antivirus or firewall.

5. Run in compatibility mode. (right click on the setup file, click on compatibility tab and choose an earlier operating system, though not too early

)
:lol: 1 Basic thing, you need atleast 6 GB free space for CS4. Check that first.

After having a look at many a forums, it seems most of the people who are facing this issue have been able to resolve it after removing all the adobe applications from the system, even Adobe Reader for that matter.

Well thanks a lot for your reply, first of all i tried to install from digit DVD, which was a trial one, i haven`t installed it once.
2. tried deleting files related to adobe but

3. tried that service thing but

can`t try compatibility mode, coz the PS CS4 requires minimum winXP sp2. I don`t have any other adobe products. and 10+ gb is available in the C drive and i am planning to install in another partition which has 20+ gb of free space.:bleh:

After running the installer (which was unsuccessful), i found a log file in this location

Found another 3 directories at

and both the above directories contains a database file "caps.db" of 26.0kb

Thanks everybody for your replies. Actually i am on gprs, so can`t download a fresh copy. Anyway i re installed XP, and now photoshop installed successfully. :hap2::hap2:
