Let me guess - the laptop has a SATA hdd? That would cause the problem... you need to see in the BIOS whether you can have it emulated as an IDE drive, else you need to supply the SATA drivers during the installation process (you can slipstream them in using nlite).
KingKrool is right. Its a sata hdd, without drivers slipstreamed with nlite or something or the F6 option it won't install. Don't install it with emulate as ide in bios option, changing it back after install will pose problems.
for quick solution.. There is an option to disable native SATA support in BIOS..Disable it and bingo XP works..YOu can update your drivers later...i have tried this on my friend's lappy..It has worked..
