Can't remove folder in Win7

I have this very annoying issue. This first happened to me when i installed splinter cell DA. I game the install location as "G:\Program Files\Ubisoft." After the installation was finished i opened the drive and it had two folders with the same name meaning there were two folders both whose names were "Program Files". The original one was about 114GB and the other one was 11Gb. Both had the same folders as the original one had but when i try to open that folder in the new created "Program Files" it gives an error. So i uninstalled everything installed in the original folder. Now there is only one "Program Files" folder in the drive. When I shift delete it windows shows successfully deleted but it doesn't get deleted. When i simply delete it win says it can find the folder or the folder does not exist. Again when i installed a game in that folder again two folders of the same name appeared, in one i can access the bad company2 game folder in the other i gives an error. What should I do? Please Help?

I hope i made my issue clear.

Windows 7 have 2 folder of "Program Files" named "Program Files" and "Program Files(x86)" in case if you are using a 64bit version.

I am well aware of that. So i always remove the (x86) from the install location when i install anything in G drive. So I don't think i made such a n00bish error.

Try deleting in Safe mode or using cmd? Also is the G: where you have OS installed or you just like to give install path as "Drive:\Program Files\Game name"?

Ok i'll try safe mode now. G is the drive where i keep my games and install them. Anyway C is my windows folder. And how to delete in cmd?

Just tried to delete in safe mode, still no use.

Tell you what? That software does not work. I right click on that folder and i get no option for unlocker. And i searched that folder in regedit and removed all registry values. It just does not go.

Weird indeed. You get no option of unlocker even if you right click on any other random folder? Or its just for that particular folder you want to delete? :ashamed:

Edit:

You can also try to delete the folder using command prompt.

1. First locate the folder that you would like to delete by using CD command.

2. Then on the command prompt type: rmdir foldername

i type CD nothing happens, i type CD "G:\Program Files", says system could not find file specified, i type rmdir "G:\Program Files" same sh1t. Also tried running cmd in Administrator Mode. And unlocker does not show up when i right click any file or folder randomly.

Is the game an original version? As having two folders of same name is not possible unless some one hooked explorer/shell or have installed a FS filter driver in your system.

If it is an original, you may verify with their support otherwise you may try using some antirootkit tool like GMER etc and delete the file, but I am not very sure whether they'll be able to help you as you are on 64 bit version.

Yes i have splinter cell double agent original and also bad company 2 original. Yes what you say about a hooked explorer seem to bug me. Now read this. I have four folders in G drive namely Downloads, Game Collection, Program Files, Game Files(this one i just created recently today to install bc2). I can create two folders with the name "Program Files" after that when i create a third folder windows shows the option to merge this one with the older one. Generally this merge pop-up comes automatically when you create another folder with the same name, i.e., two folders with the same name, but in my case this merge option comes only when i create a third folder with the same name. I tried to create another folder with the name "Downloads" and the merge pop-up popped immediately. So the problem is only with that folder i mention earlier. I searched for GMER but the site didn't show support for win 7 s didn't download it. I have KIS10 in my system.

What you see as merge is actually this,

when explorer sees that a folder create/rename request is being generated and there is a folder with same name there, it pops a message and if you say yes to merge than it performs some copy operations from your src folder to destination folder. It than must be deleting the second folder.(you can verify this with procman as well). That means in general your second folder was never named same as first folder as already stated. There may exist a possiblity that one of them may be a shortcut though, you may verify them as well.

I just checked GMER in my windows 7 prof 64 bit and it executes fine, though it shows a message box on startup, ignore it. Than expand the tab and go to file tab, check if you can delete it using it?

So, I think Unlocker is not compatible with Windows 7 as that app works perfectly on Windows XP.. :ashamed:

Try booting from a linux live cd and delete that folder. Hmm,try this. It should work.
