1. Click on Start button, then select Control Panel -> System and Maintenance -> Administrative Tools, and double click on Services applet.
2. If you have User Account Control ON, if it asks for permission, click Continue.
3. Locate an service named Windows Search. Right click on Windows Search, and then select Properties.
4. Click on Start button to start the indexing service.
5. On the Startup Type dropdown box, select Automatic (delayed).
6. Click on OK button.

you can start the "Windows Search" service from Task Manager.
Open Task Manager, click on the "services" tab.
Click on "name: tab once to sort the services according to names, this way its easier to locate Wsearch.

Start the service if its not already.

thanks a lot!

but i remember turning off windows search service and now i can't see it in the services tab as well task manager!!!!

In Windows Services, ( Start > Run > Services.msc {Press Enter}) Windows Search mode should be Automatic (delayed start). If its stopped, then start it manually.

i can't find "Windows Search" under the services

I tried downloading it from the Microsoft website but you can only download it to vista/xp/server2003

help?

Turn on Windows indexing and searching option that you disabled

I get search by pressing F3

You should get it too

Try it. Turn that option on for searching

Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Turn Windows Features on or off

Enable Indexing service and other services you want from here :)

I hope this will do the thing..

When you just click on the start button and start typing the name of whatever program you need does it show you a list with the most likely program names?

Also just try typing within an explorer window.
