hey TE gurus,

with the summer barging in, 24/7 pc users, like me, cant do anything but keep the side door open, even that is not a solution as lot of dust gets in the delicate components.

so now i need to get fan(s) for my case. and i have no clue which one to get. (who knew cooling the pc would be a difficult!!!)

i would like to knw

1. how many fans would i need

2. what are the good companies

3. what cfm to go for

4. users personal experiences in the noise of the fans they might be using.

as for the cost... i want a complete VFM... and cost will be decided after i learn more about this.

thanks.

First of all, how much are you willing to spend and what is your current fan setup?

1) Depends on what and where the fans are currently installed. You target should be get proper airflow ....
2) Scythe, Coolermaster, Xigmatek, Lian-Li, etc.
3) There is no particular CFM to aim for. Obviously a higher CFM fan would mean cooler temps but more noise and dust. So its up to you to find the perfect balance between noise and performance. Also larger fans (140mm fans) move more air at lesser speeds and noise.
4) Well depending on how far the system is from you, 3 ~ 4 120mm fans running at 50CFM shouldn't make a lot of noise. 140mm fans would be even quieter while maintaining performance but would cost more and have lesser options. Avoid any fan smaller than 120mm fans ... they make too much noise for the cfm they generate.

i dont like noise, so i use the coolermaster 120mm x 4fanpack. you can get all 4 of them for 800rs.

they are low cfm and low noise

@RD274
my budget is max rs. 500.
I am using 1 fan which was provided with the case at the back as exhaust.

I am looking for 1 or 2 fans.(can't decide)

My cabinet is under the table. So i lil noise won't be a problem.

I was plannin to install one fan in the front as intake so the hdd would be cool. will i need another??
@stormblast
are these fans available in packs of 2??

I also checked out fans from amigo... Any good??

i am gettin one cooler master fan for rs 250.
And what is the model for the pack for 4?? Cause i am guessin these are similar...

^ They are the same ones. 1 seperately retailed for Rs 250...4 pack ones costs Rs 850, but retailers sell at Rs 800. I believe all those are 35 CFM Fans.

However in NZXT Gamma, you will need atleast one with a Higher CFM. My option is to install that in one of the Ceiling openings.

i do use gamma case,

what i have done is cover top fan sites with dust filters and i installed one fan for hdd cage and one fan for exhaust at back.

i have cpu temp of 35-36 and hdd temp of 33-35.

guess what.normal seaget(7200 rpm ) runs cooler than so called green disk (wd 10ears)

i have added dust filters too...
Keeping the side door open... And after 4-5... My hdd temp goes around 45-47... Highest i've seen it go to is 50... So i am a lil worried...

My system temp is around 35-40 with the case side panel open...
And the CPU temp is around 45...
I have reduced my usage for now... Till i get better cooling...
I guess gettin one high cfm fan and with avg cfm...

@pratikb have u ever had a problem with the fan provided with the case?? Cause sometimes my case fan does not start when i start the system... It works after i move it a lil with my hand... Could there be something wrong with the fan or the connection??

Can you pls tell how did you get the dust filters. Also you seem to be using two fans one in the front and other at back.
