With games like Manhunt and GTA, a little bit of censorship ain't that bad, but the way we have seen Censor Board working in India, I fear worst. There are too many sensibilities that can be hurt a little too easily in our country. With an organisation full of old bored Ladies and Gentlemen willing to listen, who knows how many will be up in arms every time a new game releases here :@

Your favourite video game, where you can ‘kill’ your enemies by shooting them in the head, may be on its way to becoming a thing of the past.

The I&B ministry has finally heeded to pleas by parents to censor all graphic computer games. This basically means that computer games with too much blood and gore will not be made available for children. Same goes for those games which involve ‘prizes’ like virtual sex with a girl if you clear a certain level.

Whatever.... they can't regulate games available in the market. All they will do by say officially "banning" a game is make the price in the grey market that much higher. And anyway, the article is not talking about banning really, but about those retarded stickers on boxes that tell you for which age the game is appropriate.

All hail the Internet....even if the game that is on the store shelf is censored, the torrent/p2p version is still there for all to d'load

meh, even if they banned the games in stores, we would still have steam, direct2drive and even play-asia.com to get our gaming fixes...

and if all else fails - like kumar said, long live the internet/the local pirate

shit this is not good.

the reasonable way would be to label the game adults only and keep it out of the reach of children. unfortunately, the way our censor board works is that they feel the need to decide what adults should or should not experience and end up banning shit instead.

ESRB exists for a reason, you know. Also, what's this talk about "unsuitable content being cut from a game". Are they gonna go in there equipped with a scissors? Do they expect the companies to do it?

hmm to the guys who aren't too bothered by this with the idea that they'll download the games off the internet... what if you want to play some game online... thereby requiring a legit cd key and that game ends up being banned from retail stores? this could be worse than it seems.

of course you can always buy it off the internet if you want it that badly but that is an added hassle especially if you don't own a credit card.

It's all done by censor board chief Sharmila Tagore . Its almost impossible to do wat they r trying .
But does this mean that if some multi-player release which wud appear voilent for them wud be banned . So no more original's here ? :(

OT- My mom finds CS 1.6 also very voilent , i was slapped once when spotted playin Hitman - Blood Money :@

Like I said, you will just get legit games in the grey market - no biggie, just that the markup may be more.... but seriously this is such a non-issue. Censor boards can make a difference as to movies whose prime target is cinema hall audiences and DVD audiences. But in terms of video games (which are not even produced here!) there is nothing to worry about.

F*** the censors.

 No offence - that is hilarious!!

The Idea of censorship in itself is a ridiculous and un-democratic one in my view.....but then we are living in a very hypocritical society...so that is the price to be paid I guess......

It is sad but Government Rulezzz :bleh:

I fear that they might scrutinize lan parties too.
:fear: :fear:

  ROFLMAO....

That would require a state of emergency to be imposed.....we still have our civil rights....right to privacy is very much there.

Germany is a good example for censorship on games....they released a different version of UT3 there which had no blood n gore.....

Yeah, well, what will the censorship really achieve? After all, in India, violent movies are never rated Adult or anything like that.

The fact is that the Censor board always insists on cuts on either

1. You say something that they think insults a politician etc

2. Minorities

3. Majority...

4. Sex

Since most games don't have 1, 2, 3 or 4 (and mainly concentrate just on blood and gore) there is really no reason to be worried.

Anyway, someone should ask Sharmila Tagore if banning video games will stop hunting/shooting, seeing as how half of her family is accused of being a criminal enterprise indulging in hunting... if so, go ahead and ban it! (I can imagine her saying, "My poor baby Saif, he was influenced by playing video games and they made him kill deers...")

We should be quite used to being ridiculed with possibilities that I mentioned given the country we live in and how the censor board works. Publishers who already don't launch games here and were considering India as a market might turn their backs on us forever!
