The worlds smallest PSU

Smaller than most connectors

ONCE AGAIN, out of left field comes a device I would have never expected, the PicoPSU. This is a full DC-DC PSU with a 120w capability, and it fits entirely over the standard PC 20 pin connector in a 1U case.

The PicoPSU works on anything that will take a 20 pin connector and live in the 120w envelope. It was made for VIA CPUs, but will work just fine on P3s and Athlons, possibly on early P4s as well. The only down side is that it only has 2 molex and a single floppy connector, so don't look for it to run your multimedia monster.

Basically, this thing is amazingly tiny and cool. If you are building a small PC project, car PC, or anything else space constrained, look no further. It only runs $49.99, and is available now.

HD-DVD cases worse than Blu-Ray's

Dumb designers, no cookie

A WEEK AGO we told you about Blu-Ray cases, and how they differ from standard DVD cases, potentially making all your shelving and cases useless. How does HD-DVD do in this regard? Worse.

The size is again different, but the most troubling bit is the red strip at the top, it adds a lip so it appears that they won't stack flat. Oh yeah, not only are your shelves worthless, but you can't even pile them up straight. Lets hear it for brain-dead design.

Apple rewrites history

Still getting its facts wrong

APPLE HAS an interesting marketing department, which, until recently, was happily making dubious claims for the superiority of its chosen Power chippery over Intel achitecture.

But the company advocating the switch, decided to listen to herself and made a switch of its own.

Gone are those Big Blue boys, gone are the days of PowerMacs.

And, as you can see in the screenshot, Apple designed a new logo for Intel's Core Duo processor, and we have to admit that it looks better than the Intel one. But, the claims made in that marketing text do not hold warter.

AppleInvents.jpg

The marketing boys pronounced Intel's Core Duo processor the first Intel CPU produced on a 65 nanometer process. Sadly, that ain't true. Presler and Cedar Mill are actually the first cores Intel made in new manufacturing process, with Pentium 4 6x2, Pentium D 9xx and Pentium Extreme Edition 955 being the first 65-nano boys on the street.

Maybe Jobs just hates the Pentium 4 and NetBurst marchitecture.
