Okay basically I just discovered that due to some mishap, my system partition is NOT the partition of which my OS is installed. Hence I cannot format that partition (Even though its empty).

Here's a screenshot of disk managment.

Disk1 is my primary HDD. You can see that Drive "D" is the System drive and Vista is installed on drive "C". Also what does the green rectangle signify?

What I'd like to do is, make Drive C the system partition and format drive D (i.e. make it a primary partition).

Thanks!

AFAIK, even if you install windows in some other partition, the boot files are loaded into the first partition itself.

Did you create these partitions while installing Windows or you installed windows in preinstalled partitions.

Where is bootloader located? The boot folder in the root of the drive. The drive on which vista is installed or the D drive?

The Bootloader is on the C drive (Vista), and even in My Computer Drive C is flagged with the Windows Logo.

But I cannot understand why Disk Managment shows drive D as the system drive.

yea i had too, cuz windows will think its still in the same place as before.

Erm okay I did as you said, but my system still boots (Cause I think the bootmanager is on the same HDD (Diff partition). Do I need to delete the Boot files from the other partition before going into Vista repair mode?

green means logical drive..

A simple way would be

1) get a ubunty feisty dvd,
2) boot..
3) set the partition which has the vista files as the boot partition using gparted..
4) repair boot using vista dvd..
