can any one tell me what's the cheapest core2duo available in India?(intel or amd) I am helping my friend build his own system and he wants to go for cheapest processor available(so that he can spend more on gpu).

Hi,
Please post the rest of the config. you have planned, along with the total budget for all the stuff you're buying.
Regards.

PS: Im assuming you mean the cheapest processor with 2 individual cores, right?

The cheapest processor from intel is pentium E2200but better go for pentium E5200..

From AMD it is AthlonX2 7750..both intel&AMD processors retail arnd 3.2k..

first of all, Core 2 Duo is brand trademark of Intel so there can't be any AMD procs with COre 2 Duo. Now if you say you want procy with 2 cores you have many choices.
Regarding intel E2200 is dual core is of allendale architecture and E5200 is Core 2 Duo is of wolfdale architecture, you can go for the second one.

Intel Pentium Dual Core E5200 is based on same Core2duo architecture except that it has less cache. Totally rocks at 2.7k. Cheapest c2d should be E7200 for 5.5k-6k

Where can u get a E5200 at 2.7k:S The minimum retail price is 3.2k in most of the places.... As said earlier the E5200 is also a wolfdale and when coupled with Gigbyte EG31S2L@2.3k is one of the cheapest CPU+MOBO combo(5.5-5.8k) in the market. Choose this combo... Cant go wrong with it:ohyeah: But do mention ur overall budget and needs so that others can help u get a balanced rig :)

E5200 is also based on 45nm production which makes it run cooler than E2200 & low power consumption. where do you get it for 2.7k ? :S

get e5200 @ 3.3k or AMD 7850+ BE ..those will be gud choice...

+1
You can save a few hundred by going for something cheaper, though it's not really worth it. This is the minimum you should be looking at.

PS: Isn't that the AthlonX2 7750?

there is hardly any difference between e5200 and e7400 on paper but when u look at the benchmarks u can see there is a gud performance gap between the two. so the extra 1.5k is completely justified if u ask me. one more example a2 x2 250 and p2 x2 550---hardly any difference(in reviews).correct me if i am wrong.

You've got it backwards.
On paper the E7400 has a 1066Mhz FSB as compared to 800 for the E5200, a higher base clock speed of 2.8Ghz compared to 2.5Ghz and an extra 1MB of L2 cache. On paper the E7400 is a lot better. In practicality however, and especially when you start OCing, most of these factors disappear.
The E7400 is definately the better processor, however the last one i bought was in the 5.5k(close to 6k) ballpark, which i don't think it's worth, even more so now that we have a stronger AMD lineup.

The x2 550 BE is a MUCH better chip.
