My modem keeps getting restarted every time my ups switches voltages. tried everything , and nothing works

thinking of getting a cheap online UPS ( for modem + router+ download rig maybe). but how cheap do they come? I need just a few 100 VA

on the other hand , i could make myself a DC ups ( if all else fails )

u can try giving direct line to modem instead of going through UPS. i had same voltage problem, but this solved it.

the path is thisaway

mains -> stepup transformer-> ups-> modem

my mains voltages go down as far as 100V . so the stepup is required, however it creates switching transients.the UPS cant seem to stop it. the "spike" protector" doesnt seem to help this either

What about using a CVT before of the UPS ?

These days the voltage in my house touches 250v every night so I use a step down transformer before my APC SmartUPS. The APC SmartUPS does not seem to have the AVR function built into it, so what comes in to the UPS goes out to the computer until the voltage reaches around 255v, after which the UPS cuts off the incoming line and supplies power from the battery. I do not like to run my computer with incoming voltage over 240v. I have a Digital Panel Voltmeter running 24/7 next to my computer.

hmmm. CVT's seem nice , but even they handle only 170 to 250. i need it to go down as low as 100, and maybe a little lower :( higher- it never goes above 220 around here

anyway, thanks for the suggestion. will do a bit of research on it ( or outsource it to my kid sister who is supposed to be studying electrical engineering :P )

YIKES! 15k for 1KVA :O

I think I'll go to the electronics shops and start checking for CVT prices :ashamed:
