For the next one and a half year the major use of this rig would be only for programming, browsing, listening to music and on occasion for watching original blu-rays. No gaming whatsoever.

There are two ways i can go about this:

1) Buy a cheap second hand C2D rig. IMO it will be more than sufficient, the only qualms might be in aspect of playing blu-rays.This way i can jump on to a totally new platform after i'm done with college and hopefully buy it from own salary.

2) Go for a unlocked Phenom II X2 555 based rig.

1. CPU - AthlonII X2 240 ~ 2.8k

2. Motherboard - Biostar A 785GE ~ 3.4k

3. GPU - HD4200 IGP

4. Ram - 2GB Corsair Value select ~ 2.5k

5. Blu-Ray Reader ~ LITEON 4X BLURAY ROM IHOS104- 06 ~ 6.5k

ddr2 mobo. makes sense?
Well he has 1GB DDRII already and has said the budget as low as possible. So this is the only way to satisfy his needs.

If there is set budget then one can suggest accordingly.
