Rockchip company from china produces processors which are seen in many low end tablets and smartphones , they power majority of set-top-boxes , digital picture frames and PMPs as well .
Rockchip unveiled its first dual-core chip RK3066 based on ARM Cortex A9 along with Mali 400MP as the GPU . The chip was manufactured using 40nm process with focus on lower cost , hence it was not expected to perform better than processors like Snapdragon , Tegra or Exynos .
But the chip turned out to perform remarkably well . In Basemark 2.0 ES Taji benchmark , the Rockchip RK3066 even beats the highly acclaimed Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 based on next gen Krait - Cortex A15 with Adreno 225 GPU .
Recently three tablets based on RK3066 took the top positions in the Rightware's PowerBoard list , beating the likes of Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, Lenovo IdeaPad, Asus PadFone . The benchmark focuses only on 3D performance , but still the performance seems quite impressive.
