Chinese phone maker Phicomm to invest $100 million in India in next 3 years

China-based mobile handset maker Phicomm, which entered Indian market with the launch of 4G smartphone on Wednesday, will invest USD 100 million over the next three years on R&D and marketing.

"For the next three years, we plan to invest USD 100 million, including the local team, R&D centre and marketing," Phicomm CEO Min Zheng told PTI here.

The company is also exploring manufacturing in India though the final call is yet to be taken.

Zheng said the company is targeting the youth to expand presence to grab 5 percent share of mobile handset market in five years in the country.

"We have got IT, manufacturing and design, everything in-house, which gives us maximum flexibility to customise according to customers demands," Zheng said.

"Indian smartphone market is constantly evolving and consumers are looking for unique smartphones with advanced features and high standards to gain the maximum experience. Our strong in-house research and development team has helped in customising the smartphone especially for Indian consumers," Zheng added.

Phicomm, which has now launched Passion 660 in India, exclusively on Amazon, at Rs 10,999. The phone will be available for purchase from June 9, but it is not certain if the company will follow the flash sale model.

The Passion P660 sports a 5-inch IPS full HD (1080p) LCD display with 441 ppi density. It has a 13MP rear camera with LED flash and a 5MP front camera. The device runs on a 64-bit Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor with 2GB of RAM and 16 GB storage space.
Phicomm claims the Passion P660 is among the lightest smartphones available — it weighs 110 gm only. It supports 4G and is powered by a 2,300 mAh battery and runs on Android KitKat OS.
