I'll be subscribing to BSNL DataOne (Home Unltd Plus) and i need to decide on the modem to buy.

BSNL gives me 4 options (check pic below).

I have a desktop at home and might add a wi-fi laptop soon. which option would help me in setting up a small (wired+wireless) network at home? I am a total n00b with respect to networking. All ur inputs are highly appreciated. :hap2:

I'm not too sure abt the networking part but dont buy the router from BSNL. Rather get a D-Link DSL-502T from any local dealer. :) Ofcourse this is my personal opinion if anybody else knows a better one they are welcome to suggest.

Ethernet Card is Best for Home PC/Office PC as you will get More Speed with it in compare to USB, sorry I don't know about WIFI so no comments.

go for TYPE-2. I also have it for my existing wired-LAN and wireless 'future'.

I've recently subscribed to BSNL DataOne (Home UL900). Though I had applied for Type-I model, they provided me with a Type-III model (Huawei SmartAX MT841). It has got 4 Ethernet ports which means 4 PCs in LAN can share the same connection at a time. The manual also mentions the presence of a USB (its confirmed since I got a USB cable with the package) and Wireless connectivity options (can't confirm since never tried that) in that same modem but the graphic posted by you says otherwise :P

Only 13 days passed since I got the connection, so can't say anything about reliability etc. of BSNL modems but from whatever I saw within this limited time, feels good. No unwanted disconnections and stable data speed. :)

Data1 Connection ROCKS......particularly the DL thing..so much so..made me a greedy pig of a downloader......... as 2 fetch me a 100 trojans for free!;)

So beaware of that!

Anyway,Type2 Modem for u as in the official parlance as what u need!

using the D-Link 502T for around a yr. without any issues. There are many within the D-Link right from 500 series onwards to 604 which is a wireless one. There are also many from Linksys as well as Netgear :-

The best so far I've seen of Netgear is DG834GT

Feature sets :-

- In built ADSL Modem

- Integrated 802.11g (108 MBps) wireless access point

- Other features of routers (like Firewall, NAT, URL filtering, VPN pass-through etc. :)

No idea on pricing though :(

Cannot say about type2 but I use type 1 modem that is Huawei MT882. I have been using BSNL since oct 2005 and the service has improved greatly. Billing errors, disconnections etc have reduced a lot (cc sucks though). Speeds are also great+good pings on all Indian gaming servers :D

^^Customer care.

Get type-IV. The difference between type -II and IV is just 200 bucks and you get four ethernet ports instead of two. It could be useful, and at just 200 bucks more is definitely worth it.

Let me do warn u though tht there 've been reports of BSNL not honoring returned faulty modems. These have been on BBS's so can't verify the truth one way or the other.

you could use
1. an ether net cable or 2. wireless dsl router 3. wireless ADSL router
you could use your options.
the best thing is going for the wireless router.
