Hey guys,

*its one of my many attempts to ruin the forum.... as according to Sir Deejay, so please bear*

I have decided to join CGI I got offers from 2 companies (Wipro and CGI, Wipro training in Hyd and CGI in Bangalore) Since I have decieded to do higherstudies in 2 years time, this will be like a stop gap arrangement and will also help rack up some experience points.

Now I gotta find a place to stay in Bangalore which is:

- Affordable

- Close to (#38/1, Naganathapura, Electronic City Post)

- Allows me to take a Airtel Internet Connection (I cannot live w/o my own internet connection.)

Can you Bangaloreans help me out on this?

Regards,

Karan Misra

You might have to take up residence inside electronic city.. the only internet option there is thro gprs or bsnl :P

Sandy knows that because of me.

I stay in Electronic City.It will be arnd 2-3 km frm CGI

I am working in Infy & have option of dataone or reliance r-connect

presently connected with r-connect, 400 rs per month

unlimited frm 10 pm to 6 am, speeds of arnd 110kbps to 144 kbps.

No airtel if u live near electronic city.

Neraest place to CGi where u can get Airtel will be 7th Mile on Hosur Road. It will be arnd 5-6 km frm CGI. So decide accordingly.Airtel head office of karnataka is in 7th mile on hosur road only.So only problem in getting connection there

Hey guys,

You are all aware of Wipro. I have to make a fast decision. Wipro or CGI......

Wipro: http://www.wipro.com/

CGI: http://www.cgi.com/web/en/overview.htm

Wipro is gonna place me for "training" (3 months) in Hyderabad (but dont know where I will go after training.) CGI has offices in Mumbai and Bangalore. I have been placed in Bangalore for training and will probably continue to work there after trainign as well.

One good thing is in Wipro I have been placed in PES (Product Engineering Services) which is the R&D department of Wipro. Also, CGI is purely a Services based It company.

CGI is giving me 1 lakh extra over Wipro's paypackage -.- But the PES dept in Wipro is attractive.

So guys, please tell me....

Regards,

Karan

Rofl.. Post Guardian

My memories of Hosur road are that it was a place notorious for traffic jams :P (But I think a flyover has been built).

Btw, Karan you taking your bike over ? If so, then no probs naa...

Ok to start off.. I have never heard of CGI except for the link that u gave in the thread. Secondly.. I know hyd is growing big time, prolly not known to other people but ask a hydro & u will know.

Wipro is growing fast & it has a great base in hyderabad, not just wipro there are many companies gripping hard in hyderabad (cyberabad), hope it doesnt sound funny..

You wouldnt need the extra 1 lakh offered by CGI in hyderabad as the costs are very less & you can eventually save more, so even if it is a mighty lakh less then still u get to save more. Plus If u go to bangalore, your "IZZAT" is in khatra as goku is waiting for u there.. whereas here u find .... rave, ibbu, plus me if you stay long enough in hyderabad.

Wipro has a team working in microsoft campus & whats more that working in microsoft itself.. the biggest exposure, prolly what every young heart has this in his desires to work with microsoft.. a few might not agree.

Weather might be a lil hot in summers but how will it worry you if you are working in an MNC like wipro, you will always be in the AC. The livng costs are very cheap there so you wouldnt have to spend a lot on that as well.

Internet infrastructure is growing within next months. Plus, if you get Bharati in hyderabad, then your pings to sgwg is as good as playing from within sgwg (not boasting but its a fact)!!!

Lots of place to go about, plus lots of cool people to meet, nothing is going to make u feel better than making this choice to go to HYD!!! Go for it!!:hap2:

Well if I was 16 then I would also suggest that you join CGI, after all money is everything.. or it seems to be from there.
However at present you must take into account the future of your career. Its too early to look at money. I would say taht you would get better brand recognition with Wipro and perhaps exposure to a better work culture. This should be your priority as you have decided taht you will be pursuing further studies and this is just a small break in your journey.

You already mentioned that the PES of wipro is attractive and I feel that you would have better opportunities there. I may be wrong.

Also you must also take into account the money that you will be spending while livign in banglore.. as you wuld be looking for an accomodation, so that means paying ur rent, paying electricity, paying for transport, food...
and blore is one of the costliest places to live in india. So that extra 1lakh would get balanced out for sure.

So your priority IF you want to focus on your career and have alredy decided to do further studies.. should be a better brand value company. After all that brand value and stature is there for a reason.

i think wipro should be a better choice than CGI (but now it shouldnt matter since you have taken up CGI) cause i heard wipro starts processing H1B in a year of joining which means onsite opportunity - this is with respect to long term prospects... just because you get 1 lakh more doesnt CGI is the best.

But if you have no ideas of going abroad then this wipro aint the place for you.

I know this from personal exp.

btw where do you want to study here in IIT/IISc or Abroad?

I'm not sure about CGI though - is this company a service company like TCS, wipro CTS etc? If yes whatever i said above might not be applicable but if its not then no problem, this is just my view and you view it from a different perspective.

cos if you want to study abroad... you can get onsite opportunities and search for the univ in the place (most probabaly US) where you want to study and get your degree - cause searching for a univ when you are in the US is way better than making calculation from here.

since I am left in big doubts.....can you please tell me. what are your thoughts about CGI? how do u rate it as a company. money is no consideration (regarding the extra pay from CGI)

The name 'CGI' is sort of ambiguous, there's a similar CGI (Computer Graphics Incorp.) but I guess this CGI is different.Brand Name matters , but only upto a certain extent. All you want to do is look at the work you are getting there. If the work is good then there's no harm in joining a relatively smaller company.I would suggest you to find out about the work being offered at CGI and if that's good then go for it.There's nothing like joining an Indian IT in a bigger/better position whereas joining an Indian IT comp. as a n00b can hurt.

Secondly, Dont worry about the money. There's lots of time for you to earn money so concentrate only on your area of work (Cos how much you earn depends on what you work on) and see what work interests you more.It all boils down to the work you will be doing.I am slightly bent towards CGI , but as I said It all depends on what you work on.

All the best :).

PS: Regarding going abroad and all.Dont be in a hurry to go abroad and stuff. You'll eventually go abroad sooner than later AND, it all depends on ur work :ohyeah:

Do you plan to do MBA or some other post graduation degree?

If its MBA you are after, the brand name of Wipro will be more benifitial to you.

Besides, does either of the offer state anything about any integrated Post Graduate Diplomas? Generally big companies have tie ups with the likes of BITS Pilani etc who offer you some sort of a Deg/Dip depending upon your qualifications. Apart from that what you also have to consider is the fact of a bond. Does either of the two have any bond scheme?? I would suggest you avoid bonds.

@XT: how can he avoid bonds altogether? he's a fresher right? they might put him in a 1 or 2 year bond..

@Karan: so the ONLY advantage of CGI is money? not worth it IMHO.

Sorry to chip in hope you dont mind Karan, else mods kindly delete it.

How is CTS compared to wipro, infy n all?

^^CTS is very very very good.

They gave a Video iPod (:O) to their employees when the company touched the 1 Billion Dollar Mark in Revenues.

1) Yes there are bonds involved. In both companies. Wipro has a 1 1/2 yr bond whereas CGI has a 2 years bond.

2) I have no plans what-so-ever to do MBA on my own. I plan to persue a technical career, and therefore have my sights set on GRE. I could have given it this year itself but I needed somewhat of a break. Could not just go on studying studying. I will do it as soon as the bond that my employer sets me to (either Wipro or CGI.)

3) CGI is a slightly bigger company (in terms of asset) and has half as many employees as compared to Wipro (25K worldwide vs 50K for wipro) Also the lower number of employees generally means its easier to get noticed. Right?

Karan
