Hey,

I'll be buying a a monitor to go along with my rig.
The rig will have an athlon II quad or tricore
880 chipset gigabyte board.
4gb ddr3 Ram
Good GPU -After a couple of months. Will use the 4250 igp till then.

Budget: 8k. Can be increased if benefit is substantial/worth it.

After looking around I've found a couple that I'd like to choose from(Feel free to suggest alternative models):

Dell ST2210 21.5(with hdmi port)-9000/- or Benq E2200hd
Dell S2009W 20"-6600/-
Dell 22" S2209W- 9200/-
Benq G2220hd 22" -7550/-
Samsung B2030 20"- 6500/-

My decision on 20'' and 22'' depends on how much the performance in games dips at fullhd. Also how would my dvd's( I rent movies quite regularly.Never watched a full hd movie before though)..look on the different resolution monitors? Hope it doesn't look bad at full hd res.:(

Since this monitor will be used for a long time....I was contemplating getting the dell st2210/benq e2200hd with an hdmi port. However specs wise it seems the same as the benq g2220hd besides the hdmi port.

I may play ps2 games on the monitor. I'm considering getting a ps3/360 in the near future as well. How much worse would the games look without an hdmi port? 1500/- just for a hdmi port seems odd. Is there something I'm missing?

Will be buying the monitor this week.

Are all 3(dell/samsung/benq) equally good with respect to warranty/service etc? What about picture quality/black light bleeding etc?

Thanks.

BenQ E2200HD is better buy than Dell one. Though G2200HD is the best of the lot, if you plan to get a console in future, go for monitor with HDMI port

Thanks for the replies guys.
@hatter-why is the e2200 better than the dell one? Speakers? Anyway...it's like 9500/- or so now. Do you have any idea of the difference in quality between a console hooked with hdmi and one without. I'm interested to see if the difference warrants nearly 1500/-.

@adizz- 16:10 are hard to comeby now. Almost all monitors sport 16:9 aspect ratio.

I would bet on BenQ G2220HD. It's bang for buck. Good performance at a very decent and competitive price- point. Though I haven't used it, I have seen a demo and heard a lot of good things from others about it :).

@paranj

I've heard good things about the g2220hd too. It's very often suggested in rig recommendation threads here. I was hoping someone had a specific answer with regards to my hdmi port query. I'm trying to find out the 1500/-more or so for the benq e2200/dell st2210 is justified.

Also, don't know of the service of the 3 respective companies. Hope benq isn't below average in that regard.

Go for G2220HD if you are on tight budget, as for HDMI you can get a HDMI-DVI converter for 250/- rs.

@Memento :- I have heard that benQ provides very good customer support, but you can't get better than Dell :). And what Roxtin says is true, you can just get a HDMI to DVI converter.

From the replies so far,it seems like the Benq g2220hd is the way to go.

Didn't know about the convertor. Have any of you used it ? Was interested to know if it performs almost as well as a full hdmi port.

The only difference between DVI and HDMI is that HDMI has sound. So video quality wise you wont miss a thing.

Thanks zloyd. So are you saying video quality wise , in the future if i hooked up a ps3/360 to the g2220hd through dvi it would look the same? Would I have to do something special to get regular audio to work(not hdmi)?

I always heard that when people use a ps3/360 on their tv's the addition of an hdmi cable makes a huge difference. Maybe it's different for monitors?

No, the thing is TVs have inbuilt speakers so they have to use HDMI if they want hi-def vid plus sound. Hope you are catching my drift... but in computer monitors, majority of them don't have speakers or even if they have, they are crap. So everyone hooks up third party speakers and if you are gonna use PS3/X360 with the monitor, I highly suggest you do that. So go for it man, the vid quality will remain the same. HDMI in TVs make huge difference as consoles generally come bundled with normal AV cables which transmit SD signals while HDMI transmits HD signals :).

hdmi uses hdcp which is fee based so hence the cost increase. other than that as explained above DVi and HDMI both send uncompressed signals and hence no difference in video output. the only difference then remains is audio. its just that to be future ready/future prrof one can go with hdmi.

Ahh. This is the part where I was getting a bit confused. I just coudn't wrap my head around why basically the same monitor with an hdmi port cost 1500 bucks more. My google searches didn't lead to a specific, satisfactory answer. You cleared that up really well.

I was deciding between the g2220hd and the 20' dell s2009w. I suppose the Benq G2220hd is the best choice.

Appreciate the help everyone.

Thanks.
